BAULKHAM HILLS CRICKET CLUB ANNUAL REPORT A cordial welcome is extended to you to attend the Annual General Meeting of the Baulkham Hills Cricket Club to be held on Thursday, 26th July, 1956, in the Baulkham Hills School of Arts Hall, commencing at 7:45 p. m. sharp.
BUSINESS:
Gentlemen, I have much pleasure in submitting for your perusal and approval the Annual Report and Financial Statement of your club for the year ending 30th June, 1956. The club entered three teams, comprising 45 players, in the competition, viz, A grade (1 team, 15 players) B2 grade (1 team, 15 players) and Saturday morning juniors (1 team, 15 players)
The A grade team performed creditably to finish in equal 2nd place and I feel sure that only for the inclement weather they would have won the competition. Congratulations to Wentworthville on winning the competition for the 5th time in six seasons.
P. Newman most catches (13) and fielding trophy. Although this team only finished 4th in the competition, the players had a very enjoyable season and only for a costly lapse in the middle of the season would have finished much closer to the divisional winners, who went on to win the competition.
Congratulations to Merrylands R.S.L. on winning the competition.
Most catches - D. Parker and F. Booth (13). E. Perl fielding trophy. The age limit for this competition was reduced this season, all players had to be under 14 years as at 31.12.55. This age limit, in my opinion, is too low as it prevents boys from 14 to 15 years from playing junior competition and they are not old enough or experienced enough to play with our B2 grade team, therefore, we lose the services of some of our boys to other clubs, or they drop out of cricket altogether. Our boys had another happy season and although they did not win the competition they played the game in the right spirit and were a credit to their club, even after losing their best player early in the season through a misunderstanding which should never have happened as the junior players are governed by the same rules and regulations as the senior players. The boys will do a lot better once they overcome their nerves and develop their batting strength as the following averages will show.
Congratulations to Rangers 1 on winning the competition.
R. Maker won batting and bowling trophy. Many thanks to Mr. Gilham for his fine work in looking after the boys. G. Horwood, and D. Blundell were re-elected to the, executive committee of the Association, also the club had a third member on the executive in D. Barrance. He was elected before joining the club. G. Horwood was re-elected as a member of the wet weather committee. P. D. J. C. A. entered a team in the Martin Shield competition and no fewer than 5 players from our club took part in these matches. D. Blundell was selected as Captain-Manager of the team. P. Newman bowled very well in these matches. Congratulations to P. Newman (55w. A grade) and M. Gilham (63w. B2 grade) on winning the Association trophies for taking the most number of wickets in the season in their respective grades. Congratulations to Mr. J. Thompson (President) and Mr. F. Horwood (Treasurer) on being elected to their respective positions as office bearers of the club and judging from their efforts during the past season the club will benefit while ever they remain in office. Many thanks to the retiring President (Mr. W. McBurnie) and Treasurer (Mr. L. Cornell) for their fine work while they were in office. The club extends a hearty welcome home to Mr. W.McBurnie, his wife and family after a most enjoyable trip overseas. Once again the season concluded with the usual very enjoyable social evening. Many thanks to the willing workers who helped the evening to be a success and special thanks to our Patron, Councilor E. Horwood, who came along and made the presentations to the trophy winners, namely, fielding trophies to P. Newman and E. Perl, batting and bowling trophies to R. Maker (Juniors). Councillor E. Horwood also made presentations to Mrs. Parker, Mrs. Franklin, Mrs. Russell, Mrs. Cleasby and Mrs. Gilham for scoring and serving of afternoon tea. I hereby take this opportunity of thanking all the executives, club members, and their wives and friends for their continued support and patronage of the club and the club's social functions.
Yours truly,
Throughout this Annual Report will be found the records on the field of all players, some reference to the work of our ladies, and a tribute to two of your executive office bearers, namely, your President and your Treasurer. One glaring omission is the failure to mention the work of the key man on the administration of your Club, our Honorary Secretary, Doug Blundell. The success of any Club or similar organization can be directly attributed to the energy and zeal of its Secretary and even though we did not take out the premiership on the field, we can truly claim to have been served over the years by the premier Secretary of the Association. Not only is Doug's work in this capacity worthy of recording; equally as much we should remember his work for the Association in general and for the under 14 competition in particular, in the running of which he contributed so much by making himself available for umpiring duties. Doug had a difficult season in many ways, not the least of which was the illness which beset Mrs. Blundell and which caused Doug much concern. On behalf of the Club Doug, I say thanks very much for a job well done, may you continue to serve us for many years to come and above all things, may Mrs. Blundell be completely restored to health so that she may once again attend our games in the forthcoming season. Finally I extend my thanks to the members of the Club for having elected me President, for the year just concluded; it has been an enjoyable experience and I trust my service in the office in some measure repays the Club for my inability to score runs or take wickets. |
