We started the year with a group of very young players. They bonded very well and it quickly became apparent that team spirit was going to be our best attribute. With 2 9-year-olds, 4 8-year-olds, 5 7-year-olds and one 6-year-old the team started the year with a lot to learn. But learn they did! All players improved enormously especially in fielding and bowling. The team was able to reduce the extras from 70 in the first game to around 30 in each of the last three games. The most pleasing aspect of the summer was how well the boys all got on as a team. Many had not met before we started practicing for the first match. The younger players, in their first year playing cricket, all improved significantly during the year. Many of the parents where also big assets to the team. Helping out with scoring, umpiring and keeping the boys occupied during matches. Thank you to all the parents for their support and assistance. THE TEAM Thomas Brunton: Always tried very hard and his bowling improved a long way through out the year. Jake Carpenter: Had a very good eye especially when batting and was able to score well in most games. At times he showed he could bowl quite well. Dean Garroway: Came to the team already a well-rounded cricketer. He excelled in all areas and won the Batting Award. He also showed a skill and quick hands when keeping. Chris Gunton: Always enjoyed his cricket. He always gave an enormous effort. He had some days when his bowling really came off and he took 4 wickets on two occasions. Greg Malyon: Was able to focus on improving his batting early in the season and did this well. Later in the year he worked harder on his bowling and saw some good returns in this area as well. Sam Shiel: Was a consistent all round achiever. Another who improved in all areas of the game, especially his bowling. Thomas Stewart: Always tried hard to learn more about the game. Was able to show promise and persistence in all areas of the game. Rushane Sumanasekera: Was young in this team and showed a good defense when batting. His bowling became accurate and more dangerous throughout the year. Ashleigh Thomas: Showed consistency in all areas finishing second in both batting and bowling awards. As a seven-year-old, he received the Encouragement Award. Jerome Wijensinghe: Won the Bowling Award and was the quiet achiever and thinker of the team. We were sad to lose his services toward the end of the season. Cody Thomas: Started as our six-year-old fill-in and ended up playing all but 2 games. He showed great courage and determination when batting and was on a hat trick twice in the last three games. Another huge improver.
