2002/2003 Report - Under 11/1

What a fantastic season! The boys progressed without losing a game to go on and win the final. It was a pleasure to be involved with a team of talented young cricketers who played with such skill and professionalism. When put under pressure they would support each other and rise to the occasion. The team scored 2,166 runs without ever being bowled out and only lost 75 wickets in the 12 rounds. They won 5 games outright taking 179 wickets. The boys scored 9 fifties (in under 11's batsmen retire at fifty) and two hat-tricks.

Our first game set the standard when we opened the batting scoring 245 runs for the loss of only two wickets, with Daniel, Gabriel and Nick all scoring fifties. Samira opened the bowling with a maiden and Daniel followed with a hat-trick. Samira also took a hat-trick in Round 6 against Pendle Hill. Round 7 was our best batting performance when we scored 278 runs for the loss of four wickets. Sam Lehmann scored our fastest fifty in just 45 minutes, hitting 10 fours. The team scored over 200 runs on five occasions. The semi-final against Norwest was our hardest game. We opened the batting and were 3 down for 6 runs in the fifth over which was a new experience for the players and the parents. With 11 batsman in the side the boys did not let the pressure get to them and went out and did the job with Sean, Samira, Sam, Aaron, Ben and Raymond all scored valuable runs with the team scoring 133 runs. Norwest put up a good fight but could not hold out against the commitment and focus of our boys. Sean Abbott help set up the final win against Kings Langley, scoring his first fifty. Raymond was the star of the bowling taking 3 for 6 off 7 overs.

A team quotient of 5.7 is a remarkable achievement for a team that has six players still eligible to play Under 10 cricket.
