This was one of those seasons that just get away from you. We played some great quality cricket on occasions and had some games in control when the concentration left us and we let the opposition back into the game. Overall the boys continue to improve and the coaching by Adam from the B8's later in the season was of great assistance. The players are now finding where their strongest talents lie, with the bowling of some and the batting of others starting to shine. Our bowling line-up was probably the best in the competition as was our fielding (when we kept our concentration). We just missed out on making the semi's for the first time since playing in the Under 11's. I know the boys were disappointed by this but there is always next season. Special thanks must go to Chris Evans for scoring (and Jake's aunty for filling in), Ian Evans for umpiring, and Adam from the B8's for taking over the coaching. THE TEAM Ali Bokhari: Ali came to us half way through the season at a very opportune time. With Lawrence overseas for some time it looked as though we were going to have to play with only ten players. He is a quiet person but tries his hardest when playing. He had a couple of good innings were he was able to score much needed runs. He improved with every game he played. Amit Chand: Amit was only able to play a few games this season. This being his first year in division one he was able to show some promising potential. He should develop into a capable spin bowler. Lawrence Daniel: Lawrence continues to show potential to become a great batsman. He can play some brilliant shots but then loses concentration and lashes out at the ball. A reliable bowler he can swing the ball when he keeps the pace down a bit. One of the more colourful members of the team. Rhys Evans: An amazing ability to swing the ball saw Rhys take quite a few good wickets this season. He has also displayed some great accuracy in attempting run outs. Potential is there for him to become a good batsman if he remembers to use his feet. Brodie Field: Although Brodie was not able to play every game with us due to other commitments, when he was present on the field everyone knew about it. His encouragement to his fellow players lifted them and they become more intense in playing. A very solid bat and handy medium pace bowler. Jake Gorman: A very energetic player and wicket keeper, he kept the team on their toes. His movement behind the stumps this season was much improved and he was able to take some top catches. His batting is improving and he is able to occupy the crease when necessary. Troy Higginbotham: Troy's bowling has also improved dramatically this season. He is able to swing the ball at quite a good pace. He has tried consistently throughout the season with special attention to his batting. John Jerome: By far the most capable batsman on the team he was unlucky not to make the rep's this season. A quite achiever he is determined to do his best and loves his cricket. Nearly always the first at training and the last to leave. William Jewitt: Will has amazing reflexes and he was rarely taken out of slips. Some of the catches he took were worth of entry into the classic catches competition. Also a capable batsman and regularly opened the batting along with John. On his day he can bowl quite well. Andrew Mansted: Captain of the team, he displayed strong leadership through the season with his field placements and bowling options. He also had a great captain's knock against Wenty Leagues where he hit a four on the second last ball of the day to win the match. He is also a very handy as a spin bowler. Aaron Purdue: Aaron's ability to field in close often frustrated the opposition batsmen. He was able to cut of many runs and to take some skilled catches. An amazing hand to eye coordination often sees him striking the ball while exposing all his stumps. Although he only bowled on a few occasions he nearly always picked up a wicket. Robert Scott: Robert's bowling this year improved dramatically. He had the opposition batsmen asking on many occasions when his bowling spell would be over. His batting has also improved and he actually played defensive shots this season although eventually he would try to belt the ball into orbit. Alok Vaidya: A very consistent medium pace bowler he quietly goes about taking wickets on a regular basis. He is working on his batting in a very determined manner and if he keeps that enthusiasm up he will succeed.
