For a team that was thrown together at the last minute, B13 performed well to take the minor premiership by about 30 points. The season consisted of many highlights. There were five outright victories. Twice we bowled teams out for less than 20. There was an exciting tenth wicket partnership of 51 between Paul Morris and Adam Fahey to get us first innings points against Wenty Leagues. Twice we defended low scores to beat Seven Hills narrowly. Unfortunately, we could not do this a third time and Seven Hills beat us by 5 wickets in the semi-final. Our leading bowler was Adam Fahey with 47 wickets at just under 8. Our leading all-rounder was Matthew Vecchiato with 169 runs at 42, 25 wickets at just under 10 and 8 catches. His absence due to injury did not help our premiership chances. Brad Boyle won the fielding award with 8 catches and 3 run-outs and an ability to field in any position including wicketkeeper. The highlight of the season was our fielding. During various stages of the season great catches were taken by Brad Boyle, Matthew Vecchiato, Anthony Sartori, Craig Sparks, lan Renton, Jake McGaulley, Adrian Cox and Ron Moye. Most of our victories could be put down to excellent bowling, sate catching, athletic fielding and dependable lower order batting. It was rare for our top order batting to set up victory. Only twice did we score over 200 runs and Ian Renton with 313 runs at 26 was the only player to score over 200 runs for the season. Don Crawford achieved the top score with 80 runs against Wenty Leagues. Everyone enjoyed the season and most will be back next year. We enjoyed playing our home matches at Masonic and until the semi-final we won 6 out of 6 at Masonic. Thanks to Adrian Cox for organising our Christmas function of prawns and sausages at Masonic and to Matthew Vecchiato for organising the end of season trip to Wollongong. THE TEAM Ian Renton: Captain. Started the season with two half centuries. But his best innings came against Norwest, the eventual premiers, in Round 7 when he batted out of character to score 50 not out in 16 overs to help secure outright victory with only 20 minutes to play. Reliable first slip fieldsman. Played every game. Ron Moye: Vice captain and wicketkeeper. Very safe behind the stumps with few byes and hardly a dropped catch all season. Reliable batsman. His best innings was in Round 2 against Pendle Hill. At 5/30 Ron came in batted aggressively immediately to score 65 runs in just 30 overs and help take the score to 154 and help set up our first outright win of the season. His partnership of 124 with Ian Renton was our best of the season. A good season with 13 catches and 186 runs at 17. Ian Cox: After a long lay-off from cricket Ian was soon thrust into the opening role and more often the not saw off the new ball. A satisfactory season with 143 runs at just over 10. Also captured a wicket in his first over for many years. Started the season as a reserve but ended up playing every game. Don Crawford: Second leading run scorer with 197 runs at 18. Batted most of the season at No. 3 and his aggression set up some good scores for the team. We made 240, our top score of the season, against Wenty Leagues in Round 5 on the back of Don's score of 80 runs in just 25 overs. Don's speed between wickets and in the field is also an asset. Dane Sparks: Bowled accurate inswingers to finish with 28 wickets at just under 13. Always looked good with the bat and can expect to score more than 143 runs next season. Another to play every game. Anthony Sartori: A late inclusion in the team and immediately made his presence felt with wickets and runs and some outstanding catches. Unfortunately, he missed the semi-final with a shoulder injury. Matthew Vecchiato: Transferred his indoor cricket form to the outdoor game with ease. Had an excellent first game with wickets, an outstanding catch and 51 not out. Eight catches, a run-out, 169 runs at 42 and 25 wickets at just under 10 highlighted his season. Unfortunately, his season ended early with injury. Brad Boyle: Brad did not get amongst the runs this season but his versatility in the field proved valuable. Bowled good outswingers with a best haul of 5/35 and 2/5 against Wenty Leagues. Proved to be a genius on the horses in Wollongong. Has easily covered the costs for several cricket seasons. Adam Fahey: Worried all opposing batsmen with his pace and bounce. Finished with 47 wickets at just under 8. Used a savage pull shot to good effect at various stages during the season. Another who is likely to score more runs next year. Paul Morris: Proved a surprise packet with the ball with 16 wickets at 7 in less than 32 overs. Highlight was 26 not out against Wenty Leagues. This included a six to clinch first innings points by one wicket. Adrian Cox: Enthusiastic player who is a non-stop talker. Another making the transition from indoor cricket. A respectable lower order batsman who figured in a number of vital last wicket partnerships. Took some excellent slips catches and took a wicket with his first ball for the club. Jake McGaulley: Missed a lot of matches through work commitments so did not get going with the bat this season. Took some fine catches - both in the outfield and as a keeper. Darrin Cox: Proved a good opening bowling partner to Adam Fahey. Only played a couple of matches before going overseas. Craig Sparks: Happy to fill in when asked and more often than not came on and took some remarkable slips catches. Always looked good with the bat but had limited opportunities. Thanks also to Troy Higginbotham, Des Pillay, Jared Mohr and Jake Gorman for filling in during the season. Thanks also to Mitchell Sparks for acting as a substitute fielder when needed and to Neil Boyle for his regular support.
