2002/2003 Report - B7 Grade

Another season has passed and thankfully another baggy maroon. Back to back premiers and once again making hard work for us to finish in the top four. Gladly we did and finished with the prize. There were some outstanding performances this season in all areas and some very impressive debuts from Sam Shortland and Wayne Bambury. We enjoyed success against every team bar the Westmead Wombats who hammered us twice and still managed to finish last. Every one in this team played important roles in every victory, which makes this side so strong. Although in saying that it does help when you have players like John Walters who scored 611 runs at 43.64 for the year. Our fielding also won us many games. The fielding trophy I believe could have been shared between many of our team. Thankfully we saved one of our best games for the final, smashing Norwest. Trent Hession's century in the final was one of the best that I have ever had the pleasure of witnessing. Paul Hardwick making sure we would be drinking early taking 5-43 and dismissing Norwest for less than what Trent made! (If anyone has a spare hour let Crackers run you through his five dismissals, especially the third wicket)

THE TEAM

Brad (Stumpy) Boland: A true competitor standing behind the stumps all season and taking screamers in the field got left standing waiting to score big runs with the bat. Brad made himself available for nearly every game and was a big reason why we are premiers. (Not a bad umpire either.)

Justin (Sally) Field: Sal had a steady year all round scoring some valuable runs and is a great team player. He missed a few games due to his love of donning a leotard. He is a valuable member of the team with a great turn of pace in the field.

Trent Hession (Bag) - Vice Captain: Nice ball bag is something you hear quite frequently. Taking wickets, scoring runs and a fantastic fielder, Trent can do it all. He won us many games with bat and ball. 437 runs and 33 wickets made it a fair season for Trent, none better than the 127 in the final. A great year and an invaluable help to the "Neville" Captain all year. Thank you for doing the stats this season.

Sam Shortland: Sam's debut season with Baulko started with a bang with 134 runs in his first game. He finished the year with 341 runs and a very handy 18 wickets. Each Saturday he drove all the way from the "gong" to come to cricket. A great season, Sam definitely keeps the team in good spirits.

David Nethery: Some very honest batting results this season made Dave a valuable member of the team and a great help to the Captain all season. Even though Dave had some dubious batting decisions go against him, he always kept in good spirits and lifted the team in the field.

Wayne Bambury (Bamby): A naturally gifted all rounder in his first season in senior cricket finishing with 382 runs and 21 wickets, opening the bowling in the later stages of the season. Bamby had a fantastic year winning us several games. His 116 against Kellyville being a highlight, and his fielding were a great example for all to follow.

Michael Kenyon (Junior): Junior had a great season! Unfortunately he had limited opportunities because of our bowling strength, which meant that Michael was not given the chance to bowl. He was one of the best fielders in the side and was involved in crucial partnerships all year. With the bat he scored his highest score this year and was unlucky not to score more.

Mark Hogan (Hoges): Hoges was a vital part of the team taking some great catches in slips and bowling some excellent spells. He has the knack of being able to get a wicket at the most crucial times. I'm sure he would have been happier to get a few more runs as he always looks so solid and will make a big score very soon.

John Walters: What a year Johnno has had. 611 runs, has taken plenty of catches and 62 in the final. His highlight of the year would have to be 143 against the minor premiers. No bowlers had any answer to John and are probably thinking their bowling figures were OK this year if you take out that opener from Baulko. John was a fantastic support to the captain and a true team player travelling most Saturdays from Gerringong. I am sure that John is capable of making many runs for many years.

Paul Hardwick (Crackers): Yet another star this season, Paul started the year with five wickets and finished the season with five in the final, with a great spell of bowling on Sunday ripping the heart out of Norwest. 23 wickets for the season and I am sure there would have been more given the opportunity. He also scored some very valuable runs getting us out of gaol on several occasions.

Phil Woods: Our leading wicket taker! Phil gave all our opponents hell with the new ball and had some fantastic, consistent bowling all year and always making the vital breakthrough when called upon. He scored some very handy runs, clearing boundaries with ease, and producing some new shot into his repertoire, this leaving and blocking balls (impressive). He was always willing to help and bowl for as long as he possibly could.

Matthew (Boof) Kenyon: What a year for the great Boof! Opening the batting and scoring runs, we even learnt he could bowl taking 15 wickets off just 27 overs. Boof always brought plenty of enthusiasm and Jack Daniels to cricket. He is a superb fielder and has great interaction with all opposing teams, and even managed to get sunstroke this year. What a season.

I would like to make special mention to Adam, Chris, Ben and David from the B11's who played their hearts out to ensure we got a home semi-final. Adam winning us the game with 52 runs off about 10 balls. Without these guys the season could have ended differently.

In conclusion I would like to thank the whole team for a fantastic season. Everyone had a hand in the result. On a personal note it was a great honour to join the great Dave Nethery with a premiership from my first year as captain.

I am looking forward to winning three in a row next year, hopefully with all you guys. Cheers.
