This season, the philosophy for the 10 Golds was participation and enjoyment. A natural progression from this was the team work that became more and more evident as the season progressed both amongst the players on the field and on the boundary with the support crew and cheer squad. The player's thirst for cricket knowledge and skills was as fantastic as their improvement in all facets of the game during the season. Each player is to be congratulated on their level of achievement due mainly to their efforts at training and in the games, but also because of the dedication of their parents. Thanks very much to all the parents, especially those that helped out at training and on Saturday mornings scoring, umpiring, etc. This season's Under 10 Gold was quite a young side (in fact, the whole team is eligible again for U/10's next season), and what we lacked in skills at the start of the season, we made up for in competitive spirit, and by the end of the season our all round improvement was measurable in everyone's level of commitment and enjoyment. From our 11 matches we managed 3 wins, all one-dayers, not necessarily a true indication of our season, having on more than one occasion put significant pressure on older and more experienced teams. We would like to acknowledge and thank the following boys from 'Have a Go' Cricket who filled in for us when we were short during the season - Jonathan Barnitt, Alex Code, Jack Engdahl, Brad Ripps, and Sean Svanetti. Thanks also to Blake Reid. Congratulations to the award winners this season, and to those who missed out, thankyou for being part of a great team without which there would have been no award winners. Hopefully everyone will be back again next season - we thoroughly enjoyed this one. THE TEAM Tim Engdahl: Started the season with a smile on his face, and it stayed there. Tim's bowling improved with each game to the extent that he took the second highest bag of wickets for the team. During the season, Tim learned to place great value on his wicket. Well done. Mark Garroway: Mark's bowling improved immensely during the season, his lengthy run-up bamboozling many a batsman. His concentration and enthusiasm in the field (including a couple of nice catches, a run out, and a stumping) was team lifting. Nicholas Johnson: Nicky was our gun all rounder, terrorising batsmen with his lethal left arm medium pacers and wielding the willow with surprising strength. We missed his ability and personality when he moved away after Christmas. His bowling and batting figures were as good as many others that played the whole season. Good luck for the future Nicky. Geoffrey McIntyre: When Geoffrey landed his deliveries on the spot there were not many opposition batsmen that could see them let alone hit them. He also showed that he has all the shots when batting, and his enthusiasm in the field (he snared 2 runouts for the team) and at training was contagious. Well done Geoffrey. Mitchell Neckerauer: Mitch struggled a little against faster bowling, but placed great value on his wicket and was hit on the body more than once defending his stumps. His bowling also improved tremendously over the course of the season. A good team man who enjoys his cricket. Amy Newman: Amy's best asset is her pace, both in the field and between wickets. She also worked hard on her bowling action becoming very straight and effective. You acquitted yourself very well in a sport dominated by speed and strength qualities normally associated with boys. Blake Newman: Blake's ability in all aspects of cricket was very evident at the start of the season. He is a very talented cricketer who, as the averages show, is most competent batting (76 runs at 15), bowling, or fielding (one stumping and a run out). We are sure you will continue to improve and entertain. Ruben Robertson: Takes his cricket very seriously and flourished as a wicket keeper with 2 runouts and 2 catches. Ruben's batting and bowling also improved as the season progressed. He showed great dedication to training and concentration every Saturday. Todd Ripps: Todd worked very hard on his bowling runup and action all season, and when he was able to land them on the spot he was unplayable and was very unlucky not to be rewarded with a wicket. He also practiced hard on his batting and showed significant improvement. Todd is expert at enjoying his sport. Matthew Sibley: Matthew (our leading wicket taker for the season) developed into one of the best bowlers in our competition. He is also very keen in the field chipping in with 2 catches, a runout and a stumping. He also batted very effectively having a very good eye and timing. Keep enjoying your cricket, Matthew. Gaj Sivapalan: Showed much potential and enthusiasm from the beginning. Could be relied on with the bat and had venomous pace. Gaj's best attribute was his ground fielding being responsible for several direct hit runouts. Keep practicing Gaj. Mitchell Webb: Mitch had the skills from day one and worked hard on them at training. He was second in the batting stats, and took 7 wickets at a very economical 9. But it was in the field that Mitch excelled. His speed to the ball saved many runs, and this combined with his 4 catches and a runout earned him the fielding award.
