2003/2004 Report - Under 11/1

A great bunch of boys, who had a wonderful season of cricket together. At the beginning of the season our team was formed from four teams from the past year. The boys quickly bonded well together and played strongly as a team unit. My main focus was to ensure that all boys were given a fair go and to improve all facets of their game of cricket. To do this you need boys that are willing to listen and learn more about the great game of cricket. All team members were very keen to do this, which made the job of coaching so much easier, thank you guys.

Our greatest asset throughout the season was that we played as a team, with everyone contributing towards a successful year. Other teams would rely on a handful of players each game, but our strength was that all boys were capable of performing on the day. After 12 rounds of cricket we found ourselves in second spot losing only one game on the way, to our arch rivals Kings Langley. In the semi we played Guildford and had an outright win due to another great team effort, setting up a final showdown against a very cocky Kings Langley team. Due to a great effort in the field we restricted them to only 89 runs from 55 overs, by far and away their lowest total of the year. Our batting was very sound but in the end we fell 10 runs short, giving them one hell of a scare.

At the season's end our boys walked away as winners in all parents' eyes. Their efforts and the sportsmanship, shown not only in the final but throughout the year, was just fantastic.

THE TEAM

Martin Bailey: Martin always gave his all. The improvement in his bowling was fantastic, bowling nice right arm outswingers as a pretty quick pace. When batting full out attack was usually the go. However towards the end of the year showed more patience and was learning to build an innings. Took some great catches and was always a positive talker on the field. Great year Martin! Highest Score 14, Best Bowling 4/4.

Dean Garraway: Played some great knocks with the bat, showing good concentration both in attack and defence. Dean's bowling was very consistent, finding a good line and length on most occasions. Dean also took some fine catches in the slips. I'm sure that Dean has the right attitude and passion for cricket to do well in the years ahead. Highest Score 35 no, Best Bowling 2/0.

Toby Davis: Toby showed me at the beginning of the season that he was a fine fielder wiling to learn more. By seasons end the improvement in his batting and bowling was just great. Shows what practice, confidence and most of all a genuine feel for cricket can do. Well done Toby. Highest Score 7, Best Bowling 2/2.

Matthew Parker: Matt's greatest asset was his concentration. Either when batting or wicket keeping he always gave his all. On two occasions throughout the year Matt nearly batted the entire innings, showing great concentration and stamina. With more work he has the ability to become a genuine wicket keeper batting all rounder. Highest Score 26.

Ajay Joshi: Another genuine all rounder. Bowled fantastic all year at good pace at times. Although he never scored a big score, showed he has a great defence and is capable of getting plenty of runs. Ajay took some fine catches in the slips and has a great throwing arm. Good season Ajay. Highest Score 13, Best Bowling 2/4.

Aaron Duncan: Fine all round cricketer. His batting was always solid, and showed the rest of the team how to build an innings. A great year with the bat Aaron and congratulations on winning the batting award, it was much deserved. Bowled at a good pace often having the opposition batsman jumping around. In the field took some great catches and did a great job when he had a go at keeping. Great year mate. Highest Score 51 no, Best Bowling 4/3.

Raymond Alexander: Bowls a great outswinger with great line and length. His bowling figures of 101 overs with 41 maidens shows just how accurate Ray bowls. In the field his ground fielding was superb and he also took some great catches. His batting was just as good, Raymond yet another fine all rounder. Well done Raymond. Highest Score 47 no, Best Bowling 4/3.

Michael Gounder: An attacking left handed batsman, who for his size plays some wonderful shots especially off the back foot. Michael also has a sound defence when required, I'm sure Michael will develop into a great attacking middle order batsman. With the ball he bowled some fine spells throughout the year. His fielding was also of a high standard, well done Michael. Highest Score 20, Best Bowling 2/3.

Ashleigh Thomas: A real confidence player, who at times played just great with bat and ball. Has heaps of ability, and with time I'm sure will develop into another genuine all rounder. His fielding improved out of sight throughout the year. Took some wonderful catches in the semi and the final. Another cricketer who lives for the sport well done Ash. Highest Score 10, Best Bowling 2/6.

Michael Bennetts: Genuine all rounder who was very consistent all year. His batting developed as he learned how to build an innings making him a more finished player. Started the year as a quick, but has developed into a fine off spinner. Michael yet again was as safe as a bank in the field, he also took some fantastic catches. Great year Michael. Highest Score 51 no, Best Bowling 4/3.

Raveen De Silva: Has a sound all round game. His defence when batting is great. With more hard work he will become a very good batsman. Always gave 100%, especially in the field where his efforts with both bowling and fielding were of a high standard. A real team player who always encouraged the bowler no matter what the situation. Well played Raveen. Highest Score 10, Best Bowling 3/7.

Finally a big thank you to my offsider Neville, who encouraged the boys not only in their development of their cricket skills, but also in the right spirit on how to play the game. Thanks Shan for being our scorer each week, a great job from a great guy. Also a big thank you to all the parents whose support not only for me but also the boys made this year a joy to be part of. See you all next season.
