Right from the outset this group bonded together very well, and the team developed a great culture throughout the season. We weren't the most talented team in the competition, in fact we did not win a game, but the boys played with great enthusiasm and improved enormously as the season progressed. The team had chances to win half a dozen games but just fell short of the mark on every occasion usually due to deficiencies in batting technique and application at the crease. Our best performances were against the best 2 teams in the competition which proves that we can match it with best when we apply ourselves. If the season was a month longer I am sure we would have notched up a couple of victories. A special thank you to the parents who all got behind the team and provided terrific support for the boys during the season. All the team members can be proud of the improvements they made individually and as a team and they can look towards the 2005 season with much confidence. THE TEAM Nealan Vettivelli: (Captain) a very popular member of the team, and led by example with his talking and encouragement of his team mates on the ground. Nealan was the leading wicket taker and has enormous potential with his whippy right arm finger spinning action. Needs to work on his batting skills in 2005. Nicholas Burke: (Vice Captain) a very alert cricketer always trying to get involved with the game. Nick's bowling improved enormously throughout the season and his catching and fielding were first rate. A very determined bat who puts a high price on his wicket. Needs to work on stroke play technique in 2005. Stanley Veldsman: Stanley shows all the signs of being a very well rounded cricketer. Has an excellent express bowling action and when bowling with rhythm generated quite a bit of pace. Stanley's batting technique is sound and should result in some big scores next season if he keeps improving. Needs to work on improving his fielding skills. Jarred Taylor: Jarred is a very keen cricketer who enjoys the game enormously. His batting improved quite a bit throughout the season and he was involved in some good partnerships. Jarred was the most consistent fielder in the team, regularly featuring in run outs from the outfield and taking high catches. Needs to continue working on improvements in his bowling action. Sattam Rahman: Sattam is a very enthusiastic player who loves batting and fielding. His batting showed some very promising improvement as the season progressed and 2005 should be his year with the bat. Sattam was a steady performer in the field often cutting off boundaries behind the wicket and saved many runs for the team. Daniel Collins: Joined the team during the season and improved quickly. Daniel's bowling is his main asset with a compact medium pace action. Daniel's fielding and batting both improved the longer the season went and I am sure he will have a rewarding 2005 season. Matthew Newson: Matthew started the season with great batting form that continued for the first half but fell away after Christmas. Needs to work on his defensive batting technique next season. Matthew's bowling action is excellent and he bowls with good pace. As the season progressed he became one of the team's strike bowlers who regularly broke through with his in swinging yorkers. His fielding steadily improved also and he featured in some great run outs. Josh Morfoot: Josh is a true all rounder and displayed good skill mastery in all aspects of the game. His bowling was always at the stumps and with good pace, and often did not get the rewards with the ball he deserved. His batting improved throughout the season and he featured in some solid partnerships after Christmas. Josh's fielding was magnificent and he took some great catches in slips and square of the wicket. Daniel Marlow: First season player who showed a natural ability for the game, quickly improving his batting to be one of the best performers. After being persuaded to try wicket keeping in the 3rd game Daniel displayed fantastic skill with the gloves and encouraged his team mates well as a good keeper should. Daniel has a bright future in the game as a keeper batsman. Christopher Gunton: An extremely keen team player who just loves his cricket. Chris is a handy spin bowler often tying the batsman up with his loopy deliveries. Chris's confidence with the bat grew as the season unfolded, and he developed a sound defensive game, and a good on drive. Chris was a keen slipper and close in fielder and supported his team mates at every opportunity with his fabulous vocal encouragement. Hamish Firth: Hamish is a very keen cricketer who thinks about the game deeply. He has a very sound batting technique and shows all the signs of being a successful opening batsman. Even though runs were hard to come by this season he should have a good season with the bat next year. Hamish is a courageous silly mid on fielder and a handy off spin bowler which he needs to develop more in 2005. Vrushank Bakshi: Vrushank really developed as a cricketer during the season. His bowling was solid throughout the season and he has a good medium pace action. The big improvement in his batting technique was fantastic and was rewarded with some good scores towards the end of the season. Needs to work on catching skills in 2005 but I am sure Vrushank is in for a big 2005 season in all facets of the game.
