About Baulko

If success is measured in enjoyment, this team is very successful. Good friendships have developed in the team and each season we have at least 10 of the team coming back for the following season. The fun factor at times is probably inversely proportional to the cricket performances both at practice and in matches. It is possible though to have fun and try and improve your game by practicing hard and working on your weaknesses. This season started with an outright win where all the team played well with the batsman not throwing their wickets away, the bowlers showing good accuracy and the fieldsman holding the catches. From this point things fell apart. Only once throughout the year did the team bat the full 60 overs and 41 catches were dropped. The disappointing thing is this team can play good cricket when they concentrate on the simple basics and did play some excellent (if brief) cricket. The whole team would like to thank Terry again for giving up his time to run practices and coach the team on weekends. Without Terry's dedication this team would not be able to function. If only the players would listen and follow his instruction. A lesser person would have been driven to baseball. I would like to thank Chris Meakins and Phil Whittaker for their assistance scoring and Greg Gibb and Craig Jones for assistance with umpiring and Sharon for supplying a great morning tea.
Highlights for the season included
THE TEAM Joseph Caristo: Joseph alternated between opener and first drop. He has the ability to hold an end up and finished with a top score of 35. Joseph did not get much of a chance with the ball. A reliable fieldsman who took a couple of good catches. Michael Carter: Michael opened the batting all season and played many fine innings where he kept the bowlers out with a fine defensive technique. If Michael could throw his Murali's in a match the way he did at practice, he would have taken many wickets. Tim Carter: Tim gave 110% again this season in a Lazarus like come back after breaking a leg. He missed the batting averages by two runs. Tim only took the 8 wickets bowling on one leg, but still managed to generate good pace. Chris Gibb: Chris continued to work hard a practice and this resulted in his batting improving during the season. Chris led the teams bowling averages. Chris always gave 100% in the field and chased hard and this culminated with a fine run out in the last match. Jake Gorman: Jake's captaincy improved throughout the year. It is a difficult job to concentrate on wicketkeeping, field placements and bowling changes. Jake did a great job behind the stumps taking several very quick stumpings. With the bat Jake played some good innings including a top score of 68. As a spinner he has all the moves, but should stick to keeping. Ben James: Unfortunately Ben missed most of the season with a broken arm that required grafting. Ben has not lost any pace with his bowling but due to lack of practice his accuracy was not always there. Likewise his batting suffered from lack of practice. Bryce Jones: Bryce scored many handy runs and featured in several good partnerships including a 56 run match winner with Tim. Bryce's bowling improved significantly as the season progressed and he picked up many useful wickets. Reece Jones: Reece headed the batting averages for the fifth season in a row with 220 runs including 3 scores of over 50. In the bowling department Reece sent down more overs than anyone else and continued to bowl tightly which helped him pick up 26 wickets for the year. Lakshey Kumar: Lakshey continued to bowl fast throughout the season. He never got that little bit luck that bowlers need. Bowls some very good deliveries that deserve to take wickets. Lokesh Kumar: Lokesh continued to develop into a good spin bowler and took 7 wickets in an innings against Wenty Waratahs. His batting also improved greatly from last season and shows plenty of potential as an opening batsman. Keith Meakins: Keith was probably under used as a bowler. He bowls good left armers that provide the variety to pick up wickets. Keith's batting improved at the end of the season to his form of a few seasons back. Two innings of 30 coincided with a move back up the batting order. Simon Ruxton: Simon had a good season with the ball picking up 13 wickets including 5 for 21 in an innings. He had a season where the ball followed him in the field and he took 11 catches. Simon's batting fell away after Christmas after a good start to the season. David Smith: Helped out filling in for a couple of games when injuries left us short of players. A good fast bowler and more than capable batsman. Hopefully David will play the full season next year. Kate Whittaker: Kate had her best season with the bat showing a very good technique and footwork. In the last match for the year she had her best innings of 19. An excellent runner between wickets who turns many ones into twos. Kate picked up 7 wickets for the season and in the field chased the ball hard as usual and saved many runs. See you all next season
