Three in a row! What a feeling! A great season with many highlights. The question must be asked can it be four. I think so. One thing is for sure this team will give it a bloody good shot. This year has probably been our most consistent (apart from one dayers). I feel this team has really gelled together and played some fantastic team cricket this season. Each and every member of this side won us matches throughout the season.
Of course, there was some stand out moments:
Personally I would like to thank all the other captains for choosing wisely at the coin toss, because I could never get a choice (poor tosser). Let me introduce the Champions: Bob Simpson: As good as the name! Unfortunately school did not let him play as much as we would like. Although a good short season bowling, batting, fielding and support, this guy has everything. 127 in the first game, very handy wickets, and we would love to see him full time in the side next season. Trent Hession: Nickname Bag and will need one to take home all his trophies - 389 runs and 34 wickets in the regular season. Stand out player of the year and lets not forget 9-41 figures in the final. He had a very consistent season and very good match reports. Thanks for your help this season. John Walters (VICE CAPTAIN): A great support for the skipper all year, and scored very handy runs very quickly. A great century and he was a rock behind the stumps - 13 catches - and may have finally managed a stumping. He got the team together each week and without you mate I could not have done this job. Thank you. Sam (Gregory's) Shortland: Can bat but don't ask him for directions especially around Wenty. Scored a century in his first game this year with some very handy knocks throughout this year. Matt (Boof) Kenyon: In his last season, what a finish - the last wicket in the final, off his first ball! What a way to go out! He will be missed greatly by all, none more than the beer kitty and the skipper. One of the best fielders in the side, and will leave a big gap in the batting line up. His only reason for retiring is he is getting old and is very soft. Come back Boof! Wayne Bambury: He finally proved that he could score a 50 (after a big night on the _ _ _ _). He has been great as an all-rounder all year, opening the bowling on occasions, and always strong batting. A great fielder and had some great advice all year for me. A top knock in the final of 56. Phil (110%) Woods: Always trying as hard as anyone, he was fantastic with the new ball all year. He took 19 wickets and is a very underestimated batsman. He charged in every ball and intimidated all the batsman this season. Dave Wallwark: Premier in his first season, he is a great all-round cricketer. He did not get the ball as much as I would have liked, although the all-round talent of this side is amazing. A couple of 5 wicket hauls and at the start of the season no one could get him out. I hope you enjoyed your first season and can't wait to do it again next year. Craig O'Harae: Craig is another first year premier and has not played in several years. He spent most of those years watching Mark Waugh catching videos - and trust me they work. Great hands and has done a fantastic job batting high in the order, was signed up after a terrific first round duck and has never let us down. Mick (Junior) Kenyon: One of the best fielders I have ever played with, in fact the only thing he dropped all year was his bike on Grand Final night. Always supporting the captain, especially before the game with Bundy. He loves to take on any fast bowler with no box. He had some great results with the bat towards the end of the season, and a very good bowler given his chance. Could possibly open the batting next season given the gap (soft Boof). Paul (Crackers) Hardwick: Opened the bowling all year with 25 wickets! A great season! Has a knack of taking wickets whenever asked, some very handy partnerships down the order. A real standout this season - loves his horses and footy, but do not ring him at half time. Justin Field: A great season for Sally getting some very handy knocks with the bat and taking wickets, he was our best fielder all year. Always plays with the greatest enthusiasm. Congratulations to you and Sarah on your engagement. The team wishes you both all the best for the future. Mark Hogan: Unfortunately, Hoges did not get much cricket this season. A very talented all-rounder he hurt his back (thanks Phil). In the games Hoges did play, he was a big part of the victories and always gives his best. Dave (The Rock) Nethery: Always gives his all and is a great help to the skipper. Missed many games this year due to other commitments but was always there in support. His help in the final was greatly appreciated and would love to see him have four caps. Jim Finlayson: The one game wonder! 6 not out and still bragging about it! We got hammered that game so you have nothing to brag about apart from the fact you played with the champions. Would like to see him get an average one-day. In closing, I would like to thank the entire team for their help this season. It is very easy to captain a team of champions. Winning 2 from 2 as captain is great and scoring 115 not out against Hills Barbarians is always satisfying. A special thanks to Peter McLoughlin for all the help he has given me, and the tremendous job that he has done for the club this season. Quite often people do not appreciate the work done behind the scenes and this man does plenty. Regards
