2003/2004 Report - B8 Grade
Losing the grand final overshadowed what was in many respects a successful year. We had a 9-3 win-loss record (including two outright wins) throughout the home and away season that saw us finish minor premiers. We played Seven Hills in the semi final and just scraped through by 7 runs in a very tense affair. Onto the grand final where we played Hills Barbarians. Despite bowling them out for 134, our chase fell a disappointing 37 runs short.
There were many highlights through out the year, among them:
- Matt scoring his maiden century (103) against eventual grand final opposition Hills Barbarians.
- Troy scoring his maiden century (137 not out) against the Two Blues.
- Congratulations to Matt for winning the batting award with 493 runs at an average of 41. Matt backed up his 354 runs last season, consistently getting us off to good starts opening the batting.
- Congratulations to Troy for winning the bowling award with 24 wickets at an average of 12.5. Bowled some great spells throughout the year including two six wicket hauls.
- Congratulations to Chris for winning the fielding award. Chris got better and better behind the stumps as the year went on. Only letting through 42 byes (11 after Christmas) compared to the 88 we received. Also only let through 1 bye in the semi final and kept a clean sheet in the grand final.
- Catch of the year would have to go to Ben's great over the shoulder, running effort to take a match turning wicket in the semi final.
We had many contributors throughout the year, 5 bowlers taking 17 wickets or more and 5 batsmen scoring more than 150 runs. I felt we were a more even team than any other in the competition, which makes it all the more disappointing not to be the premiers. However, we did have a lot of fun along the way and there is always next year for us to have another crack at the title.
Thanks to the many players who filled in for the team throughout the year and to Sue Higginbotham for doing the honours with the score book.
Finally, thanks to all the players for another enjoyable year. See you next season.
