C Grade this year was a new team for the club, as C Grade often is. Half the team from U/16's last year, some other teenagers and a few old blokes. We managed to win two games but weren't really competitive in what is usually a hot Grade. There were some decent performances though. Warwick Smedley and Pramod Wijayapala with an eighth wicket partnership of 81 to win the match against Wenty in Round Six, David Banks with a ten-for against Kings Langley in Round Two and young Luke Dempsey from the U12/1 who scored 12 and took 3/39 in his debut match in seniors. Thanks also go to Luke who helped out in the field on a number of occasions when the team was short. We were short of players on a number of occasions because a few of the team members couldn't be bothered to let the skipper know when they wouldn't be available. Injuries hit the team as well with the captain, vice-captain and wicket keeper (all old blokes note) each being sidelined for several weeks with afflictions or injuries. THE TEAM David Banks: Captained the team and took the bowling honours with a best of 6/26 and 4/48 for a ten-wicket haul in Round Two. The 'tonkmaster' let him down a bit this year but there's bound to be some good scores left in it. Felipe Cardenas: Always looked like he was getting set for a big score, especially with what became his trademark shot of a slash over third man. Attempted a few spectacular catches when other team members wouldn't have even reached the ball. Grant Carmichael: Could be quick with the ball. Every run he made was a bonus. Mark Dempsey: Lover of the straight drive, big hit and his thigh pad. Please get a new one that fits for next year. His ground fielding entitled him to a permanent slips spot. Tim de Ridder: Enthusiastic cricketer who enjoyed every part of the game. Unlucky with the ball as he was plagued by dropped catches. Matt Hokin: Our keeper and stand-by captain who was really sorry that Warwick broke his little finger. Unfortunate victim of a couple of spectacular run-outs. Ashmeet Jolly: By his own admission, the best player in the team. Sean Law: Extraordinarily unlucky with the bat, so much so that he won the club's prestigious Duck Tie this season. Waited to the very last match to bowl. Shouldn't wait so long next season. Dushant Rao: Opened the batting more often than not, encouraged the team regularly and with a bit more pace will take many more wickets. Darryl Smedley: Vice-captain and the oldest old bloke in the team, who finally scored his age and can now retire gracefully. Warwick Smedley: Made a number of useful scores when needed and a very quick left-arm opening bowler. Especially when he had an early Friday night. Sam Taylor: Worked hard at his skills and improved his batting and ground skills throughout the season. Always enthusiastic and positively vocal in the field. Took out the team fielding award. Pramod Wijayapala: Bowled good line and length but could not quite get the breakthroughs that would have come with a bit of extra pace.
