Junior Secretary's Report - 2003/2004

The BHCC this season had 15 Junior teams with 2 teams in age groups Under 11, 12, 13, 14, 16, 4 teams in the Under 10 and 1 team in the Under 15's. Having 4 teams in the under 10's this year shows what a success the Have-A-Go Cricket is in supplying young players to our Club. The success and longevity of any club depends on its juniors and with the strength coming through, the Club can only continue to grow and improve.

Congratulations to all the teams that made the finals series, a great improvement on the 2002/03 season. Of the 9 teams eligible to play in the finals series we had 6 teams competed in the Semi Finals and they were the Under 16/2, 14/1, 13/1, 13/2, 12/1 and 11/1. Of these only 4 teams proceeded to the Finals and they were the Under 11/1, 12/1, 13/1 and 14/1. It was a great thrill to win 3 Premierships with the 12/1, 13/1 and 14/1 and the 11/1 missing out by only 10 runs. Coaches Jeff Warland (14/1), Tim Platt (13/1) and Nigel Bertus (12/1) should be congratulated for the effort and time they put in to make these young cricketers the champions that they now are. I must also point out that the Under 12/1 have now been undefeated for 2 seasons.

The BHCC again supplied the District, City and State with budding cricketers and these were:
Boys
Emerging BluesLuke Dempsey (Under 13)
Green ShieldMax Pobihuzka (Parramatta)
 Michael Delfino (Blacktown)
Moore ShieldMax Pobihuzka, Ashleigh Endacott, James Frank,
Matthew Scholz and Jeff Warland (Coach)
Gee ShieldTyler Azzopardi, Thomas Gurka, Damien Johnson, Luke McNaught,
Alex Mihalyka and Joe Gurka (Manager)
Cawsey ShieldLuke Dempsey
Creak ShieldDaniel Chatman, Nicholas Bertus, Gabriel Joseph, Aaron Duncan,
Raymond Alexander, Ian Chatman (Manager) and Nigel Bertus (Coach)
Girls
Ashley EndacottNSW Under 15 (Australian Champions)

This is a very impressive list of cricketers and watch for their names in the future. Also achievements like these can only be reached with a high standard of coaching and also a high level of parent participation. As far as the coaching goes nearly all coaches at BHCC have at least a Level 1 Coaching Certificate. We are probably one of the few clubs that can boast of this and we will strive in the future to make sure that this level of coaching is available in all ages and in all grades. Again this can only be achieved by the participation of willing parents. Not only are Coaching Courses available to all, but Umpires Courses are also available. Anybody wishing to do any of these courses please contact me.

Again I would like to congratulate all the teams, not only those who won Premierships, but to all teams as you were all successful in varying aspects of the game. All players conducted themselves extremely well and are all good ambassadors to the game and the club.

Yours in cricket

George Wasyluk
Junior Secretary
