2004/2005 Report - Under 11/2
Seven of the thirteen members of this squad were new to the club and to competition cricket. They showed tremendous improvement during the season to finish a close up fourth in what was a very tight competition among the top four sides.
The team's overall improvement is best illustrated by the difference in the results achieved against eventual premiers, Winston Hills, when we played them in rounds 1, 6, and 11. We lost the round 1 match outright, had a close first innings loss to them in round 6, but in round 11 beat them very convincingly on the first innings (Winston Hills all out 75, Baulkham Hills 9 for 138 runs).
The boys' success was built around a fine four-pronged pace attack of Ben Graham, Anoop Vaidya, Ryan and Jake Bailey, with good support from Jonathan Fulcher, John Coulter, Nevin Arora and Christopher Gunton. Importantly, outstanding fielding and catching, and excellent wicket keeping from Sam Hubbard backed up the bowling. The batting also showed considerable improvement during the season.
Our fourth placed finish in the competition rounds gave us a semi-final against the minor premiers, Hills Barbarians. Hills Barbarians won a very close and keenly contested match before they went on to lose the grand final to Winston Hills.
A big thank you to the team. You were a pleasure to coach. Also, many thanks to the parents for your support during the season.
THE TEAM
Nevin Arora
Nevin is an enthusiastic cricketer with both bat and ball. He is an attacking batsman who is developing a good range of shots and a good medium pace bowler. These skills resulted in many handy contributions to the team during the season.
Jake Bailey
Jake is one of the many players new to cricket this season and made outstanding progress with bat, ball and in the field. Jake has developed into a fine top order batsman with good technique and shot range. His bowling has developed considerable pace and is a fine all round fieldsman.
Ryan Bailey
Ryan was also having his first season of cricket and has made outstanding progress. He is a good attacking middle order batsman who is developing shots all round the wicket. He bowls with very good pace and control, taking many wickets yet conceding few runs. Ryan is an outstanding fieldsman who has taken some wonderful reflex catches in the gully area.
John Coulter
John was yet another in his first season of cricket and has great potential as an attacking batsman. Increasingly, John is demonstrating the ability to pick the right ball to hit hard. John is also a very handy slow medium pace bowler who took some important wickets and is a fine all round fieldsman.
Aidan Cousin
Aidan was another having his first season and is fine hard hitting middle order batsman with a good range of shots. Aidan hit the only six for our team against Hills Barbarians in the semi-final loss. Aidan is also a very good close to the wicket fieldsman who took some fine catches during the season as well as proving a capable back-up wicket keeper. Aidan is also a useful slow bowler.
Dineth Dayananda
Dineth is a very keen cricketer who always gave 100% effort. His stubborn defensive batting helped the team on many occasions. He is a useful slow left arm bowler and an enthusiastic fieldsman in any position.
Jonathan Fulcher
Jonathan has shown outstanding improvement this season and richly deserves the team's encouragement award. Jonathan has developed into a very fine opening batsman, combining sound defence with the ability to punish the loose ball. He is a good medium pace bowler who had the great ability to pick up wickets when they were badly needed. Jonathan is also a good all round fieldsman.
Ben Graham
Despite having only his first season of cricket, Ben is already an outstanding fast bowler. His pace, combined with great consistency of line and length saw him trouble all batsman and finish the season with 29 wickets at the outstanding average of 4.55 runs per wicket. Ben is a solid defensive batsman whose batting will improve further with more experience. Ben is a very good all round fieldsman with good, safe hands.
Christopher Gunton
Christopher has shown great improvement this season. He has developed into a solid, reliable opening batsman with the ability to hit the loose ball hard. Chris and Jonathan Fulcher developed into a fine opening batting combination as the season progressed. Chris is also a very handy slow bowler and fine close to the wicket fieldsman who took some good reflex catches.
Sam Hubbard
Sam is only in his first season of cricket yet he has already developed into an outstanding wicket keeper. His excellent glove work saw him take many fine catches and as the season progressed, concede very few byes, and very importantly, set a very high standard for the rest of the team in the field and gave confidence to the bowlers. Sam also has the ability to develop into a very good middle order batsman.
Mahir Mahbub
In his first season of cricket, Mahir always tried hard and was always looking to improve his game. He saved many runs in the field with enthusiastic chasing and good hands.
Greg Malyon
Greg had a very good season. His batting showed increasing maturity while retaining a keen desire to hit the bad ball hard. Greg is a very fine fieldsman whose good speed and hands saved many runs in the important backward square leg area and took some great catches.
Anoop Vaidya
Anoop's cricket has a great maturity about it and this saw him made captain for our end of season matches and he performed this role with distinction. Anoop is the team's only left-handed batsman and he consistently batted in the important number three position. He combines sound defence with a good range of shots. Anoop is an outstanding right arm fast bowler who like Ben Graham took 29 wickets for the season. These wee achieved at the outstanding average of 5.07 runs per wicket.
