2004/2005 Report - B12 Grade

This season saw the B10's side drop down 2 grades, with only half of the players backing up from the previous season. It was decided at the registration that there would be some players from the lower grades coming in to fill spots. At the first game of the season, there were only 5 players that knew each other.

The first game of the year was a grudge match between Baulkham Hills and Kings Langley. There were 3 players that came from Kings Langley, which became our advantage, as they knew the strengths and weaknesses of the opposition. Baulkham Hills lost the toss and were sent into bat declaring on the 2nd day at 4-294. With approximately 3 1/2 hours left in the second day, it was hopeful that we would achieve first innings points. By 4.30 Kings Langley were bowled out for 82 thinking that the game was over, Baulkham Hills enforced the follow on deciding that enough points in the first half of the season and some goods wins in the middle of the year would ensure a semi final birth. It was mentioned at the presentation that all the manager did nothing all year was turn up with the kit. This was mistaken as the manager took the new ball in his hand, took a wicket with the first delivery of the second innings. A feat no other player has been able to accomplish. With this quick start to the second innings, Kings Langley were bowled out for 39 in 45 minutes ensuring 10 points for the home side.

The second game of the season was against Winston Hills (our opposition in the s/final) we came across some very youthful opposition and won this game outright. This feat was achieved bowling from one end the entire match. Two matches and maximum points for them, with the bye coming up the way we were playing as a unit, we would be minor premiers for sure.

One thing I should mention is that we can never chase runs. Putting runs on the board wasn't that bad, but chasing low scores was never achievable. This happened in quite a few matches where we could see the finish line, but we couldn't quite make it. This also happened in our semi final against Winston Hills, chasing a smallish total of 97, Baulkham hills were bowled out for 51. Quite a disappointing way to end the season, but we saved a worst performance until the end. Maybe next year fellas we may go one better and go to the grand final.

A few mentions should go to the bowlers in this side. There were five players who managed averages with the ball of 10 and under. The best average was by Grant Korny who took 49 wickets at an average of 8.96. This was quite a staggering result as Grant missed the early part to the season and didn't start taking wickets until the beginning of 2005. Grant also managed to take the batting averages as well with 1 hundred and 1 fifty amassing 353 runs at an average of 27.15. Grant's best game with the bat was the first game against Kings Langley where he made his first hundred. Grant saved his best effort with the ball o the last game of the season a round 14 clash against Pendle Hill Colts where he took match figures of 10-28. Grant bowled and batted so well in the year that he was named PDCA Player of the Year. An outstanding achievement considering, hopefully we'll be able to keep you for the upcoming season.

Our illustrious captain John Weatherall had quite a good year making 296 runs at an average just under 20, keeping wicket and taking 24 catches. I thank John for his effort throughout the year leading the side, keeping wickets and also contacting the guys' game after game where I couldn't do this. Thanks mate for organising the guys for me. Maybe next year we can go one better. The fielding award was awarded to Brad Boland who amassed 219 runs took 2 wickets at an average of 10 and took 18 catches. Brad only missed two games and I thank him for his efforts as well.

To have the best bowling attack take 198 wickets out of a possible 200 is quite a remarkable achievement. We certainly got our money's worth this year with the ball. A special mention should be made to Jason Currey who organised players for the side. I thank Jason for his patience, as I certainly don't. Hopefully Jason I won't have to contact yourself as often I did.

Hope 2005/2006 season brings on a premiership winning side. We'll probably have to go up a couple of players
