The BHCC this season had 16 Junior teams with two teams in each of age groups Under 11, 12,13,14,15,16 and four teams in the Under 10. Having four teams in the under 10's again this season shows the continuing success that Have-A-Go Cricket is in supplying young players to our Club. The success and longevity of any club depends on its juniors and with the strength coming through, the Club can only continue to grow and improve. This season 6 teams, Under 14/1, 13/1, 13/2, 12/1, 11/1 and 11/2, made it to the semi finals series. Four of these teams, Under 11/1, 12/1, 13/1 and 14/1, proceeded to the Finals. Unfortunately the club could only win one Premiership with the 13/1's continuing their undefeated run over the last 4 seasons, a great effort and hope they can continue this record going for the next few seasons. The BHCC again supplied the District, City and State with budding cricketers and these were:
This is a very impressive list of cricketers and watch for their names in the future. Also achievements like these can only be reached with a high standard of coaching and also a high level of parent participation. As far as the coaching goes nearly all coaches at BHCC have at least a Level 1 Coaching Certificate, we are probably only one of the few clubs that can boast these credentials. We will continue to ensure that this level of coaching is available in all ages and in all grades. Again this can only be achieved by the participation of willing parents. In addition to coaching courses the BHCC supports participation in Umpire courses. After some 13 years as Junior Secretary the time has come to pass on the job to someone else. The time I have spent in this position has been very satisfying, watching young players develop from the Under 10's right through their junior years and some going on to play Grade Cricket and others staying with Baulko playing through the grades up to A Grade. When I started as Junior Secretary we only had 8 teams, this grew to a maximum of 18 teams but has now steadied at 16 teams. This is a sign of a great club and it has been my pleasure to be associated with it. The committee at Baulko is one of the best and it has been a great honour to work with them. Although I say goodbye and thank you I am sure that I will be keeping a keen eye on the junior competition and will be willing to give any assistance possible. To my successor I wish all the best and I hope he/she has as much fun as I have.
Yours in cricket
