2005/2006 Report - Under 12/2
The team had a highly successful season, winning 10 of the 12 competition round matches, 2 of them outright, resulting in them finishing the season as clear minor premiers. They won a tight semi-final against Kings Langley but unfortunately lost to a very good Hills Barbarians team in the grand final.
The team's strengths were its pace bowling and fielding, where we set and maintained consistently very high standards throughout the season. The team's batting improved considerably during the season, led by an outstanding performance by Sam Hubbard.
The team had to overcome the mid-season loss of Ben Graham, a fine pace bowler, whose family relocated to Melbourne. The fact that we won five of the seven matches played without Ben is testimony to the depth and quality of the team's pace attack. We also had the disruption caused by Council works on our allocated home ground, North Rocks Park. This resulted in the team playing home matches on four different grounds.
Congratulations again team on your fine performances and efforts throughout the season. You were a pleasure to coach. Thanks also to the parents for your support. Special thanks to the team manager, Prashant Vaidya, Michael Bailey, Phil Waddups, and Phil Hubbard for your terrific assistance throughout the season.
The Team
Jake Bailey: right hand batsman, right arm pace bowler
Jake showed considerable improvement with bat and ball as the season progressed. His batting highlight was an excellent 40 in our semi-final victory which featured fine shot making and sound defence. The improvement in his bowling was very timely as it saw him fill the vacancy in our pace attack left by the mid season departure of Ben Graham. Jake is also a fine all round fieldsman who took some great slips catches.
Ryan Bailey: right hand batsman, right arm pace bowler
Ryan is a fine all round cricketer with considerable natural talent. Ryan is a fine shot maker whose batting will develop further with experience. He is a highly talented pace bowler whose pace and accuracy had all batsmen under pressure, as evidenced by his season tally of 25 wickets at an average of 6 runs per wicket, off 100 overs with 32 maidens. Ryan is a magnificent close to the wicket catcher.
Myles Burgin: right hand batsman, right arm slow bowler
Myles was playing his first season of competition cricket and showed considerable improvement in all areas of the game as the season progressed, especially in his batting. By season's end, he had developed a solid defence and an ability to attack the loose ball. Continued application will see his game develop further.
John Coulter: right hand batsman, right arm medium pace bowler
John is a hard hitting batsman whose batting will develop further with experience. John's right arm medium pace bowling improved enormously this season. His consistent line and length made him difficult to score runs off and earned him several important wickets in the later overs of the opposition's innings. John is a fine fieldsman, combining good speed, safe hands and a reliable throwing arm.
Aidan Cousin: right hand batsman, right arm slow bowler, back-up wicket keeper
Aidan is an aggressive right hand batsman whose improvement in shot selection saw him play several valuable innings in the top half of the batting order. Aidan is a useful slow bowler and wicket keeper. He is also an excellent close to the wicket fieldsman, especially in front of the wicket where he took some outstanding catches, and his ground fielding saved many runs and maintained pressure on the batsmen.
Dineth Dayananda: right hand batsman, left arm slow - medium bowler
Dineth is a very keen cricketer who has worked very hard to improve his game. His batting features a solid defence, making him difficult to dismiss. His left arm bowling added variety to the team's attack and was rewarded with some valuable wickets during the season. Dineth's enthusiasm is most evident in his fielding where he is a highly energetic out-fielder. His positive attitude makes him a fine team-man.
Nilot Dutta: right hand batsman, right arm pace bowler
This was Nilot's first season with Baulkham Hills and he is rapidly developing into an outstanding pace bowler. His pace always had batsmen under pressure and his control of line and length improved considerably during the season. Nilot's 22 wickets at 10.50 runs per wicket were a fine reward for his efforts. Nilot is also a hard hitting lower order batsman who scored some handy runs during the season, and like many pace bowlers is an athletic out-fielder. Nilot also displays a great encouraging attitude towards his teammates and is a deserved winner of the team's encouragement award.
Jonathan Fulcher: right hand batsman, right arm medium pace bowler
Jonathan continued to build on the excellent progress made last season in the Under 11s. His fine temperament makes him an ideal opening batsman, a role he performed throughout the season. He is also developing a good range of shots. Jonathan is a good medium pace bowler who once again proved an excellent back-up to the team's pace attack. Jonathan is another good all round fieldsman.
Ben Graham: right hand batsman, right arm pace bowler
Ben's family moved to Melbourne mid-season. Prior to leaving, Ben continued his excellent pace bowling, combining pace with tremendous accuracy. This made him a handful for even the best batsmen. He is a useful lower order batsman whose batting will improve further with experience. Ben is also a good fieldsman, especially close to the wicket.
Christopher Gunton: right hand batsman, right arm slow bowler
Chris is a solid batsman with the ability to hit the loose ball hard. He played some valuable innings in the opening position in the first half of the season. He is another bowler who proved an ideal back-up to the team's pace attack, taking some key wickets and keeping the runs down in the later overs of the opposition's innings. Chris is another of the team's fine close to the wicket catchers.
Sam Hubbard: right hand batsman, wicket keeper, left arm bowler
Sam has had a truly outstanding season, both with bat and gloves as the figures indicate. His top order batting was the back bone of many of our innings with his combination of solid defence, fine shot making on both sides of the wicket and excellent running between the wickets. Sam continued the high standards in his wicket keeping that he established last season in the Under 11s. The reliability of his glovework gave great support to our bowlers and set an excellent standard in the field. Sam has a great attitude towards his teammates and has fine leadership qualities.
Anoop Vaidya: left hand batsman, right arm pace bowler
Anoop is a fine all round cricketer who was still eligible to play in the Under 11s this season. This makes his achievements, especially with the ball, even more meritorious. Anoop is a fine pace bowler whose great accuracy always made him difficult to score runs off. Anoop is a solid batsman who played some fine innings for the team during the season. He is a fine all round fieldsman and his outstanding leadership qualities and deep knowledge of cricket saw him captain the side during the finals.
Michael Waddups: left hand batsman, right arm pace bowler
Michael brings a great attitude to his cricket, making him an ideal team man. He is a solid batsman combining sound defence and an increasingly effective range of shots. A continuation of these efforts will see his batting develop further. He bowled consistently well throughout the season and this made him an important member of the team's pace attack. Michael is an outstanding all round fieldsman, combining sure hands, good speed across the ground and a fine throwing arm. This made him a deserved winner of the team's fielding award.
Nevin Arora: right hand batsman, right arm medium pace bowler
Played one game for the team when we otherwise would have been one player short. Thanks again Nevin for helping out.
