Another great season for the team! This season the boys equalled a club record by winning four consecutive Grand Finals in four years. We welcomed two new players to the team this season, Michael Harvey and Aleem Khan. Our first game against last season's finalists, Kings Langley, saw Nick and Sean open with a 318 runs partnership with Sean scoring 188 runs from 141 balls and Nick 128 from 153 balls. We finished with 2 for 352 from 55 overs going on to a comfortable win. In round 2 against Wenty Leagues Michael bowled well taking 4 for 22 but our batting let us down with the team having its first loss in over three years in a tight game, losing on the last ball by just one run. In round 7 we played Wenty again finishing with a tie when we lost our last two wickets for no runs. In round 12 Samira took 5 wickets against Wenty but once again they went on to win with a few overs to spare. In round 6 Sam Lehmann batted at number 3 and went on to top score for the team with 53 runs and Samira bowled very well taking 4 for 16. In round 8 Sean came in at number 6 and made up for lost time belting 115no from 81 balls. In round 10 Ben took 4 for 26 against Norwest. We played Wenty Leagues in the Grand Final winning the toss and electing to bat with our team finishing the day with 134 runs for the loss of 9 wickets. The best of the batting came from Brendan 38 runs, Sean 32 and Nick 28. On Sunday our boys found their form and our bowling and fielding were too strong for Wenty Leagues who were bowled out for 74 runs. Samira 3/8 and Sean 3/17 inflicted most of the damage with a high class bowling attack. Again it was a pleasure to be involved with a team of talented young cricketers who played with such skill and professionalism. Ben Abbott once again fielded very well; he has good reflexes and a safe pair of hands, taking 8 catches. Ben bowled well taking 17 wickets at an average of 11.88 to be second of those who qualified with 15 or more wickets. Ben's concentration with the bat, a good eye and strength have seen him score 165 runs at 18.33. Ben's performance was recognised with his selection to play representative cricket for the PDCA in the winning Gee Shield Team. Sean Abbott has gone from good to great this season, topping the aggregates and the averages with a massive 722 runs at an average of 65.64 from just 764 balls. He scored three centuries and had the highest score of 188 runs. Not only is Sean a talented batsman with a strike rate of 95% but a very capable bowler, taking 16 wickets at 13 to be third of those who qualified with 15 or more wickets. Sean was again selected to play representative cricket for the PDCA in the Moore Shield. Nicholas Bertus has had a tremendous year. Nick opened the season scoring 128 runs and batted consistently well during the season, scoring 538 runs (including five 50s) at an average of 44.83 to finish 2nd in the aggregates and averages. As the keeper, Nick did a great job, taking 15 catches and 1 stumping. Nick was selected to play representative cricket for the PDCA in the winning Gee Shield Team where he scored 307 runs at 61.4 and kept for the team taking 15 catches. Nick's outstanding performance was recognised with his selection as the Under 13s player and keeper of the year by the NSW Districts Cricket Association. His performance in representative cricket has again seen him selected in the NSW Emerging Blues. Daniel Chatman is an excellent all round cricketer and has continued to develop his knowledge and skills as a successful captain. Daniel is a good batsman and very fast between the wickets. Daniel scored the third highest aggregate of 187 runs at an average of 17. He bowled 37 overs with 9 maidens taking 7 wickets at 13.57 runs per wicket. Daniel is an excellent fielder, has a strong and accurate throw and a very safe pair of hands taking 7 catches. Daniel was selected to play representative cricket for the PDCA in the winning Gee Shield Team where he captained the team to win the shield for the second year. Joshua Franklin has had a very good season, especially with the bat, scoring 105 runs at 21 runs per over to finish 5th in the batting averages. Josh has shown he can bat for the occasion scoring quick runs or consolidating the innings when required. Josh continues to develop his skills as a fielder and is a talented off spinner. Josh bowled 28 overs taking 8 wickets at an average of 11.5 to finish 3rd in the bowling averages. Josh is a good fielder with good reflexes and safe hands. His contribution and approach to the game were recognised by his selection for the encouragement award. Gabriel Joseph is a very talented cricketer. Gabriel scored 127 runs with an average of 14.11. Gabriel bowled 32 overs with 6 maidens, taking 4 wickets at 30.25 runs per wicket. Gabriel is a very good fielder with a safe pair of hands. Gabriel was again selected to play representative cricket for the PDCA in the winning Gee Shield Team where he scored 108 runs at an average of 36. His performance in representative cricket was recognised by his invitation to try out for the NSW Emerging Blues. Michael Harvey made an impression in his second game for the team, taking 4 wickets in 8 overs. Michael bowled 82 overs with 13 maidens taking 14 wickets at 15.14 runs per wicket. Michael's performance as a bowler saw him invited to try out for the PDCA reps Moore Shield Team. Michael's top score was 16 runs. Michael is a good fielder with a safe pair of hands, taking 4 catches. Samira Kasthuriarachchi is an excellent bowler and a good all round cricketer. Samira bowls with pace and accuracy, swinging the ball and beating the best of batsmen. Samira bowled 97 overs with 27 maidens taking 27 wickets at 9.15 taking the most wickets with the best average. Samira is an excellent fielder with good reflexes, safe hands and a great slips fielder. Samira batted solidly all season scoring 83 runs with an average of 13.83 with a top score of 31. Aleem Khan joined our team this season having played Division 2 last season. Aleem is a good all round cricketer and a team player. Aleem scored 76 runs at an average of 19. Aleem bowled 30 overs with 3 maidens taking 7 wickets at 12.43 finishing 5th in the averages. Aleem, like many other players in the team, batted after the openers which in a team full of talent meant he had fewer opportunities at the crease. Aleem is an excellent fielder putting in a huge effort every game which has been recognised by his selection for the Fielding Award. Sam Lehmann is a talented all round cricketer. Sam scored 115 runs at an average of 23 to finish 4th on the averages. In round 6 Sam batted at 3 and proved his ability when scoring 53 runs to be the top scorer for the game. Sam is a good fielder, often fields at point, cutting off anything that comes in his direction. Sam bowled 11 overs taking 2 wickets at an average of 23 per wicket. Brendan Temple-Smith has had a very good season, especially with the bat. Brendan scored 185 runs and finished 6th with an average of 20.56. Brendan is a very good fielder with sharp reflexes, taking 8 catches. Brendan bowled 15 overs with 3 maidens, taking 5 wickets at 10.8 runs per wicket. Brendan's performance was recognised with his selection to play representative cricket for the PDCA in the Moore Shield. Teshan Weragama has had a very good season, especially with his batting. In round 11 against Kings Langley Teshan batted brilliantly, top scoring with 42 not out to help win the game. Teshan scored 77 runs at an average of 25.67 to finish 3rd on the averages. Teshan bowled 78 overs taking 7 wickets at an average of 32. Teshan is a good fielder and has taken 3 catches for the season. Trent Stubbs came back to our club about half way through the season when his plans did not work out at his new club. Trent scored 40 runs at an average of 10 which does not reflect his ability as a batsman. Trent bowled 29 overs with 8 maidens taking 3 wickets at an average of 24 runs per wicket. Trent is a team player and has a great attitude towards the game and his fellow players. He is a very good fielder with sharp reflexes and safe hands taking 4 catches with a couple of very good catches in slips.
