This season was no different to the last with its' highs and lows but overall the team acquitted themselves well. As the season progressed the new team members started to find their niche and with everybody contributing the team started to develop into a cohesive unit. The unavailability of key players during the latter half of the season unsettled things somewhat but on the up-side it also provided opportunities for other members of the team to take on new roles and extend themselves. The true character of the guys tended to shine through on the occasions when the chips were down. It was pleasing to see their resolve to get on with the job and refusal to be intimidated particularly during a couple of spiteful matches against teams above them on the ladder. Despite the difficulties during the latter half of the competition of the guys remained up-beat and were unfortunate to narrowly miss out on a semi-final berth. The Team The core of this year's under 15/2 team was made up by members from last seasons U14/3's. The remaining positions in the side were filled by; Alex Gilzean, Mithran Kathir and Shan Govil, three faces new to the club, while Adam Bailey and Arron Singh joined the team after spending last season with the U14/1's. The team started the season with twelve but injuries and absences made the going tough in the latter half of the competition. Many thanks to Sam Leehman and Brendan Temple-Smith, from the U14/1's who filled in when we were short. Thanks also to Chris Gunton and a number of others who fielded for us often at short notice. Arron Singh: Arron joined the team after spending several seasons with the 1's. He soon fitted into the team, where his ability with the bat cemented him a place at the top of the batting order. As a right-arm spin bowler his ability to trouble most batsmen saw him also become a valuable member of our bowling attack. Josh Rich: Josh is a hard hitting batsman who is able to quickly score runs off any bowler who is not on their game. His more measured approach with the bat this year saw him make a valuable contribution to a number of batting partnerships that swung close matches in our favour. Kanav Malhotra: Kanav participated in several important partnerships with the bat, he was always willing to take up a challenge and move up the batting order. However it was with the ball that he made his mark this season. Hauls of seven, three and three wickets in an innings, against three of the top teams in the competition, ensured that Kanav had a memorable season. Pranav Khanna: This season saw Pranav take on more responsibility with the ball, he acquitted himself well as one of our regular opening partnership. A batsman with a good straight defence, Pranav proved to be a steady performer with the bat throughout the season. Mithran Kathir: This was Mithran's first season with the club, a quiet business like player who quickly fitted into the team and proved to be capable with both bat and ball. His refusal to be intimidated by bowlers saw him play an important cameo role with the bat steadying our innings during several very tough and spiteful matches. James Hunt: James continued this season where he left off last time, again capably fulfilling the roles of captain and wicket keeper. His calm nature stood him in good stead as one of our regular top order batsman, unfortunately his unavailability during the second half of the season created a hole that proved difficult to fill. Shan Govil: Shan was another player new to the club, like the other new team members he quickly proved himself to be an asset to the team. Shan is a useful middle-order batsman who is capable of making runs quickly but also has the handy knack of claiming lower order wickets when others found it difficult. Alex Gilzean: This was Alex's first season of cricket and he continually improved in leaps and bounds throughout. His up-beat nature meant that he was always committed in the field and willing to take on a challenge with both bat and ball. A handy batsman with good straight defence ensured that he was always a difficult prospect for any bowler to dismiss. Daniel Crook: Daniel continued this season in much the same vain as the last, again proving to be an essential part of our opening bowling attack. His accurate and consistent bowling put pressure on the opposition's top order. His ability to take early wickets allowed the remainder of our bowlers to attack the opposition's middle order. Gareth Cousin: As always Gareth's good hands and quick reflexes make him an asset in the field allowing him to yet again stamp his name on the position of first slip. His ability with the bat has continued to improve throughout the season, while his never say die attitude ensures he is always focussed on the task at hand. Alex Bowen: Alex was another who continued his season where he left off in the last, as an integral part of the top order with both bat and ball. A safe pair of hands saw Alex take some difficult catches both in the field and behind the stumps. The loss of James during the second half of the season saw Alex concentrate less on bowling and spend more time behind the stumps sharing wicket keeping duties with Adam. Adam Bailey: Adam re-joined the team after last season with the U14/1's, soon proving to be a very useful addition to the middle order of our batting line-up. The loss of James during the second half of the season saw Adam extend his horizons by taking on the responsibility of the captaincy and share the wicket keeping duties.
