Season 05/06 - A disappointing 7th - 2 Wins, 8 Losses (2 Outright) and 4 draws (3 with no play). We welcomed all rounder Gaurang Merani ("G") to the team but lost Nick Connellan to A Reserves, Glenn Fewell to family and work commitments and Richard Cope, only returning from a serious back injury in Round 11. We knew from this, even before a ball was bowled, that we were going to struggle at this level. That in itself was disappointing. Although we had a squad of 13 (including Glenn and Richard), we had a total of 37 players turn up from a maximum 11 games started. We could only field a full side on 4 occasions and was short 2 or more players in 3 games. Our average games played from our original squad was 7.5 each from the maximum 11! Thank you to all the players that turned up and had a dig, the teams that released players to step up and the Club, namely Jason Currey, who scouted long and hard for surplus players. As a team, our biggest lowlight game was split between losing to Wenty Leagues, having them 9 down with 27 runs to get (and not getting that last wicket) or verse Wenty Waratahs where in 40 degree heat they bashed 294 after we dropped at least 12 catches. We did take 2 over the boundary and 1 off a no-ball though!! The team highlight was our last match of the season. Beating 2nd place Hills Barbarians at home when we drew the batting order "out of the hat". It was one of the few games that brought our whole team together and it showed too! Individually, Chris North just qualified (by 1 run!!!) for the batting award with 251 runs @ 31. Well done Chris! Other batsman of note was our anchor, Chris Springall with 301 runs @ 25 and Sumit Kalia, 239 runs @ 29, who were both valuable at the crease. Sumit's innings were either feast or famine, scoring 50 four times (highest score 55) and 6 or under five times. For the first time in our side's history, no one qualified for the bowling award (unless the club takes pity on us for the lack of games played and the 3 games washed out). The side took a total of 81 wickets, (which further highlights our bowling deficiencies and that we were unable to bowl sides out) for the season with myself taking 20 of those wickets @ 22 (best 5/46). Other bowlers of note include Steve Sarlog, 8 @ 23 (4/52), Craig Sinclair 7 @ 24 (3/29), "G", 7 @ 29 (4/19) and Peter Micali, 6 @ 21 (5/41). The majority of us will not back up for the A's next season. For those who do, we wish you all the best and know that we have made lifelong friends, on and off the pitch. For the rest of us who will do it all again next season, in a lower grade. What grade that is will depend on who will join us in the adventure of our tenth season for Baulkham Hills.
