2006/2007 Report - Under 10 White

Our team had a sensational season and with parents and the Coach thoroughly enjoyed the improvement the boy's demonstrated through out the year. I would like to thank all the boys for giving us such great time.

The team was assembled for the first training session after team selections took place. A few of the boy's knew each other, but on the whole this was a new team with the majority playing their first season in playing modified cricket.

Blending into a fine team in no time was one reason for the boy's success. It was a great pleasure to work with such an enthusiastic group of boys, who were very keen in improving skills in all aspects of the game. As the season progressed the boy's developed a good understanding of each others strengths.

The boy's were able to take the skills learned at training and converted this into practice on game day. A key skill the boy's continually displayed was their strong defence whilst batting. As their confidence increased all the boy's increased their range of shot's which resulted in many large scores by the team being tallied.

Another area the boy's excelled was their fielding. The catching and ground fielding at times was a joy to watch, and the boy's performed these skill years above their age. I can recall a number of catches taken were boy's diving at full stretch pull in some remarkable catches. A high light was the continued backing up of each other in the field. This was hard work at times due to the heat during some of the games, but the boys stuck to their guns.

Another area of great improvement was their bowling, each boy improved immensely during the year and at one time or another each boy collected wickets when it was needed.

Usually teams rely on the same four or five key players to perform each match. I can say without qualification that each boy played a crucial part in winning games on a number of occasions - it was truly a team effort.

The boys were able to record ten wins for the season and a single loss, displaying competitiveness and team effort. No other team in the competition cam close to the White's results. If a points table was kept the boy's were at least three wins ahead of our nearest competition. Another key indicator of the boy's success was the size of the winning margins. At time the boy's won with an average double that of their competitors.

Encouraging team members when runs were scored and wickets were taken was quite common in all the games we played. By the end of the season the boy's adopted some unusual methods of congratulating each other when a wicket was taken (I was sure that they were going to rub each other's hair off their heads!).

Nicholas Andrews - Nicholas first season of cricket and he progressively developed his batting and bowling skills during the season. Nicholas improved his bowling action so well that he was swinging the ball with control and will bother many batsmen and snare heaps of wickets next season. Nicolas is always very competitive and gave 100% for his team in all the games. One high light was a direct run out with only one stump to aim for against Winston Hills in round 8. This brilliant piece of fielding turned the game in the White's favour. In round 5 against Kings Langley Nicholas bowled a magic spell of 3 overs, 1 maiden 3 wickets for only 5 runs! Excellent! Nicolas scored 12 runs for the season and secured 4 wickets. Well done!

Tim Anstee - Tim is a re-incarnation of Mark Waugh. Tim's batting and bowling exudes an elegance Mark Waugh would love to emulate. Tim is a very stylish batsman with excellent batting skills, good timing and placement. Tim improved the accuracy of his medium pace bowling resulting in bowling many batsmen out. Tim completed some very fine catches this season too numerous to mention, many at full stretch. This youngster showed very good skills in catching and fielding. Time has already developed into a good all rounder, scoring 92 runs and 8 wickets for the season. I look forward to watching Tim develop into a leading cricketer.

Christopher Blinman - Chris turned out to be on of the White's spin twins. Chris developed into a very accurate and economical bowler. Many times during the season, an economical sell from Chris would get the team back into the match. Chris also batted with a high degree of confidence always looking to take toll on any loose balls. Chris at time bowled without a lot of luck, as many batsmen skied his ball's only to land outside of our fielders reach. Chris cored 29 runs and secured 5 wickets for the season. Chris will be a much improved player next season for this years work.

Ryan Chelvarajah - Ryan is fine all rounder with well-developed skills in bowling, batting and fielding. When focused contributes 100% for his team at all times. Very good competitor attempting to score runs or to take a wicket for his team with every ball bowled. Ryan anchored many fine batting partnerships with his fast running. Ryan is an excellent fielder with a strong arm. Ryan took some superb catches this year and will develop into an improved all-rounder next year. Ryan scored 25 runs for the season and earned 7 wickets. The competition should look out for Ryan next year; I predict he will be the great improver!

Liam Dunshea - Liam approached his cricket in a very determined and deliberate manner, similar to Steve Waugh. Liam has a very developed sense of cricket. This fine all rounder with well-developed skills and athletic ability had an outstanding season with the bat and the ball. Took 11 wickets and scored 111 runs (highest aggregate) for the season. Would have scored more if some of the bowling he faced wasn't so untidy. Liam is a fierce fast bowler with a well-refined and smooth action and a delightful stroke maker capable of scoring runs at a very high strike rate. Excellent fielder and did a good job with the gloves when required. Too many highlights to mention, except a superb bowling effort in the last game of 4 overs, 4 wickets for only 5 runs. Liam was a real asset to the team and I am sure he will continue to blossom into an exciting all-rounder. I look forward to watching Liam develop into a first class cricketer!

Mark Foskett - The quite achiever. This keen youngster played modified cricket for the first time and progressively developed his batting and bowling skills during the season. Mark improved his bowling action out of site and captured 5 wickets and scored 11 runs for his team. Mark's defence whilst batting was rock solid and held up his end many times to contribute to big partnerships. Mark's highlights include a run out from his position in the covers and spectacular catch over his head in during the last game against Seven Hills Toongabbie. Mark is very competitive and gave 100% for his team in all the games. Mark's fielding efforts were supreme. Mark's bowling developed with every game, and by the end of the season mark had evolved into one of our front line bowlers.

Michael French - Another quite achiever Michael let his batting do the talking for him. One memorable moment was against Seven Hills Toongabbie RSL, where Michael produced a sensational cover drive for 4 that got the team over the line for a nail biting win. Michael's bowling improved throughout the season where he regularly returned very economical figures, keeping the pressure on the batsman. Michael scored 79 runs and took 8 wickets fro the season, a great all round effort. I look forward to Michael being one of the leading batsmen in next year's team.

Kieran Jayasekera - Kieran is an outstanding all rounder with well-developed skills in bowling, batting and fielding. Kieran contributes 100% for his team at all times. Recorded the highest innings score of 20, and collected 63 runs in total. Kieran took 12 wickets for the season at an average of 4.67 with good pace bowling. Another season highlight for Kieran was a magnificent spell of 5 overs, 2 maidens, 4 wickets for only six runs in round 7 versus Wenty Waratahs - sensational stuff! Kieran is a very valuable team member and I am sure he will develop into a fine all-rounder.

Arsh Kapila - The Maestro. Arsh came into the team armed with a bat that was twice his size ("the axe"). Arsh is a fine all round cricketer with considerable natural talent, was under estimated by opposing teams. Arsh is a superb shot maker whose batting skill is beyond his age and will continue to develop further with experience. Arsh is a highly talented pace bowler whose pace and accuracy had all batsmen under pressure, as evidenced by his season tally of 10 wickets at an average of 6.4 runs per wicket. Arsh scored 59 runs and was out only twice during the season. Arsh is a magnificent fielder with a phenomenal throwing arm. I look forward to Arsh also taking a leading ole in the team next year.

Brandon Madden - This keen youngster played modified cricket for the first time and progressively developed his batting and bowling skills during the season. Improved his bowling action well and captured 6 wickets and scored 12 runs for his team. Brandon is very competitive and always gave 100% for his team in all the games. Well done! In an early game against the Wenty Waratah's Brandon produced an excellent wicket keeping effort resulting in a first up stumping and finishing off two run outs. In his first over bowling Brandon bowled a batsman clean out, magnificent effort. With some improvement will become a major contributor to the team next season.

Viva Raja - Viva was the other twin of Spin, who could rip a ball with a mammoth amount of spin. Viva was a key player for the team, either producing a big score or getting a bag of wickets when it was most needed. Viva is a very stylish batsman with excellent timing and placement. Recorded his highest score of 14 against Seven Hills Toongabie when it was most needed by the team. Viva also improved the accuracy of his medium pace bowling towards the second half of the season and captured 5 wickets and scored 43 runs for his team. This youngster showed very excellent skills in catching and fielding. Viva will further develop into a good all rounder.

Malindu Wijeratne - A good pace bowler, an attacking batsman, an excellent fielder with a strong arm and a fierce competitor, always trying to score runs for his team. Malindu showed a significant improvement in batting and bowling throughout the season. A re-occurring highlight was the direct hit run outs that Malindu would make. Malindu scored 42 runs and accumulated 10 wickets for the team during the season - a great all round effort.

Dilshan Wijesena - This well disciplined and keen player worked hard during the season and improved his performance in bowling and batting towards the end of the season. A highlight was his last innings where he produced two sensational hook shots for four. Dilshan bowls at good pace with accuracy and has a good defensive batting technique. Took 3 wickets and scored 16 runs. He will be much better for this season's experience and should grow into a fine cricketer. Well done!!

Neil and I would like to sincerely thank the following parents for their support during the season:-
- Ram Raja for scoring at each game. Ram's dedication to the task was very much appreciated. Ram also contributed to the team's efforts by building a very professional score book for the team to record each boy's efforts.
- Patrick, French, Ray Blinman and the other parents who helped out at training in my absence.
- The Anstee and Dunshea families for providing much needed shelter during the games
