After a slow start to the season, the team won 5 of its last 6 matches to finish in third place. This included one outright win, which was the only outright win achieved in this division in season 2006/07. As in the previous two seasons, this team's strength was pace bowling, led by Anoop Vaidya and Ryan Bailey, with good support from Michael Waddups and James Galofaro. Amol Marwah's attacking leg spin and Jon Coulter's accurate medium pacers gave the bowling attack plenty of variety that enabled pressure to be maintained on opposition batsmen throughout the innings. The fielding was generally of a high standard, with first season player, Blaine O'Brien, outstanding. The team posted some good scores with the bat during the season but the batting needed to be more consistent to have achieved premiership success. This was most evident in the team's semi-final loss to Kellyville where the team was dismissed for just 53. Despite a very determined bowling and fielding effort, this was not enough runs to defend against a quality opposition. Nevertheless, there were still some noteworthy batting highlights; Aidan Cousin's aggressive 73 against Guildford Leagues and well compiled half centuries at the top of the batting order by Christopher Gunton and Michael Waddups. Thanks again team for another highly enjoyable year and being a pleasure to coach. Jake Bailey - On his day, Jake can be a match winner, either with his attacking right hand batting, or right arm pace bowling. Jake has a good range of shots, especially on the leg side and took some important wickets with the ball. He is also a very good all round fieldsman, either in slips or in the outfield. Ryan Bailey - Ryan had a fine year with both bat and ball. He played several sound and handy innings featuring good defence and shot selection. Continued effort will see him achieve that to date, elusive big score. Ryan bowled with good pace and control that had all batsmen under pressure and his excellent bowling figures for the season were a just reward. Ryan continues to be an excellent close to the wicket catcher. Jack Carney - Jack was new to the team this season, and immediately impressed with his willingness to listen and work hard to improve his game. This was most evident in his batting where he made some important and valuable contributions to the team's eventual total score. Jack is also a handy back-up wicket keeper and he is growing in confidence with his bowling. Cavinash Chelliah - Cavinash was another new player to the team this season. He is a solid batsman who moved up to the opener's position after Christmas with the unavailability of Jonathan Fulcher. Cavinash brings a good attitude to his cricket and this helped his leg spin bowling improve considerably in the latter part of the season. He is also a handy wicket keeper who filled in capably while Aidan Cousin was injured. Jon Coulter - Jon continued to bring terrific enthusiasm and team spirit to his cricket this season. His batting application improved considerably in the second half of the season. A continuation of this will see him rewarded with some good scores. Jon's tight, accurate medium pacers were again an important element in the team's highly successful bowling attack. Jon is a good fieldsman who took some great catches during the season and was a deserved winner of the team's encouragement award. Aidan Cousin - Aidan is an aggressive right hand batsman whose innings were always highly entertaining to watch. More judicious shot selection will see Aidan score even more runs. With Sam Hubbard moving to the Division One team, Aidan had the opportunity to keep full-time this season. He performed this role well and benefited considerably from keeping to the high class leg spin of Amol Marwah. Jonathan Fulcher - Jonathan continued to open the batting this season and in combination with Chris Gunton, got the team away to some solid starts. Jonathan combines sound defence and neat stroke play. He is a useful medium pacer who continued his happy knack of taking a wicket to break a key partnership. Jonathan's school cricket commitments prevented him from playing in the team after Christmas and he was sorely missed. James Galofaro - James was another new player to the team this season. The improved consistency in his line and length as the season progressed saw him earn a role as a first change bowler in the strong bowling attack. This improvement saw him take some vital wickets and maintain pressure on the batsmen following Anoop and Ryan's opening spells. James also worked hard on improving his batting, which will benefit with further work. Christopher Gunton - Chris opened the batting and as mentioned above, the highlight was a polished half century against Kings Langley. Chris displayed the patience necessary to both survive the new ball period and build a large score. Continued application will see him produce big scores on a more regular basis. He is a useful slow bowler who has the ability to bowl tightly under pressure. He is a good close to the wicket fieldsman who took a couple of good reflex catches. Subeer Hayer - Played one match, filling in when the team would have otherwise been one player short. Subeer would still have been eligible to play under 12s and is clearly a highly talented cricketer: right hand batsman with sound technique and good range of shots; good leg spin bowler; and a fine all round fieldsman. Thanks again Subeer for helping out. Amol Marwah - Amol came to the team from the 12 1s in 2005/06 and quickly became a valuable team member. He batted with considerable intelligence and skill which produced some sound and valuable innings for the team. The highlight though, was his fine leg spin bowling. Amol grew in confidence as the season progressed and this saw him take many wickets very economically and challenge all batsmen with his attacking spin. Further growth in self-confidence and practice will see Amol's leg spin improve even further. Blaine O'Brien - This was Blaine's first season of competition cricket and he quickly developed into an outstanding fieldsman, combining safe hands and an excellent throwing arm. This made him a worthy winner of the team's fielding award. Blaine also played some useful innings with the bat and worked enthusiastically on developing his spin bowling. Blaine is a highly talented soccer player and has used this team sport experience to good effect in his cricket. Anoop Vaidya - For the third season in a row, Anoop has played a year above his age group, having been eligible for under 12s this season. He maintained the very high standard in his pace bowling which saw him win PDCA competition awards in the previous two seasons. Anoop is a bowler of high skill and combines this with great accuracy making him difficult to score runs off. He is also a good solid batsman who played some important innings. Anoop has a fine cricket brain which enabled him to share the team captaincy with Michael Waddups. Michael Waddups - Michael is an intelligent, thinking cricketer, who combines this with skill, whether batting high in the order, bowling with good control, or in his excellent all round fielding. Michael's season was highlighted by an excellent 52 in the last competition round against eventual premiers, Rouse Hill Rams. This innings featured the necessary ingredients of patience, sound defence, sensible shot selection, and smart running between the wickets that are needed to make big scores. Michael has fine leadership qualities which enabled him to admirably perform the captain's role.
