2006/2007 Report - B11 Grade

This team was a mix of younger players, mostly from the 16/1s, and a couple of seasoned campaigners. Under the intelligent captaincy of Martin Ams, the team quickly developed into a strong combination which held down second place on the competition table throughout the season.

Third placed Aka Sports club were the team's semi-final opponent. Baulkham Hills batted first and were dismissed for the relatively modest total of 115. This total threatened to be insufficient against a strong batting side. However, tight bowling well backed up in the field saw the team dismiss Aka Sports for 97, for a first innings win and passage to the grand final and another crack at minor premiers, Pendle Hill Colts.

Baulkham Hills again batted first and were soon in trouble, slumping to 7 for 66 before a good rear guard performance from the lower order batsmen saw the total climb to a respectable 153. This also highlighted one of the team's strengths, its batting depth. Despite taking an early wicket, a 104 run second wicket partnership laid the foundation for Pendle Hill's eventual 8 wicket victory.

There were many fine individual performances in the season, most notably:
Joe Gurka's 93 against Aka Sports, the team's top score for the season;
A series of solid innings high in the order from Evan Platt (78 highest score);
A Joe Gurka hat trick against Aka Sports; and
10 wickets for Tony Senior against Aka Sports, the highlight of many fine bowling spells from Tony.

Ward Koski - Ward was both a key batsman and bowler. He played some fine innings, with a top score of 85 against Aka Sports, an innings that was a major factor in the team reaching 283 in pursuit of Aka's 309 in round 13. His medium pacers were persistent and consistent, bringing 18 wickets at the highly respectable average of 13.50.

Evan Platt - Evan regularly batted high in the order and did a great job to produce the highest season aggregate of 343 at the healthy average of 31.18, with a highest score of 78. A feature of his batting was his patience which saw him be the backbone of many of the team's efforts with the bat. Evan also displayed good shot selection and also bowled well to pick up 17 wickets. At 19.00.

Chris Sleviero - Chris shared the team's wicket keeping duties with Andrew Wood. He batted high in the order on quite a few occasions and is another young batsman with sound technique and good shot selection. Chris's top score was a fine 60 against Hills Barbarians, while his 24 in the grand final was a fine effort and a major factor in the team reaching a total of 153 after a top order collapse.

Martin Ams - Martin led the side well and set a fine example with his high standard of fielding. His 10 catches was the highest for a non-keeper. He played some important innings for the team batting high in the order with a top score of 65. His innings regularly featured fine driving in front of the wicket. His 33 in the semi-final against Aka Sports held the innings together and proved to be crucial in a relatively low scoring match. Martin also bowled some useful spells with his medium pacers, highlighted by 4 for 7 against Seven Hills / Toongabbie.

Tony Senior - Tony's batting was always highly entertaining, constantly on the lookout for chances to hit 4s and 6s. His biggest contribution to the team was through his steady, consistent and sometimes marathon efforts with the ball. Tony finished with 33 wickets at the excellent average of 12.33. This included a 10 wicket haul against Aka Sports.

Azaan Vhora - Azaan made several valuable contributions with both bat and ball. Azaan is a good shot maker and steady medium pacer. He had a top score of 37 and took 16 wickets at the healthy average of 14.06. Azaan also fielded well.

Alex Mihalyka - Alex's aggressive left hand batting produced some fine attacking innings in the team's middle order. This saw him finish second to Evan Platt in run aggregate with 299 runs at 37.38, highest score of 73. His bowling also proved useful and he chipped in with some handy wickets.

Luke McNaught - Luke regularly opened the bowling and his class as a pace bowler was clearly evident. Luke also has the ability to bat aggressively in the lower middle order which he did with good effect on occasions. Luke also brings a fine attitude to his cricket and this makes him an ideal team man.

Tim Littlejohns - Tim is a right hand batsman who particularly enjoys the hook and pull shots and hit several boundaries with these shots. Although he only totalled 105 runs for the season, he had a knack of playing a key innings when it was most needed. Never was this more evident than Tim's excellent 21 in the grand final against Pendle Hill Colts.

Andrew Wood - Andrew shared the keeping duties with Chris Sleviero. He batted solidly on several occasions and his efforts were rewarded with a move to the opening position for the grand final against Pendle Hill Colts. Continued application will see Andrew rewarded with some big scores.

Matthew Gunton - Matthew played some important innings in the lower half of the batting order, most notably in both the semi-final and grand final where his efforts helped the team add valuable runs. Matthew also fielded consistently well throughout the season in addition to vigorously shining the ball for the bowler. This made him a worthy winner of the team's fielding award.

Alan Sala - Alan bowled some useful overs with his left arm pace bowling. Continued application will see him rewarded with wickets on a regular basis. Alan was another to consistently offer encouragement to his team mates in the field.

Misha Gajin - School cricket commitments meant that Misha was only able to play on a part-time basis. Misha bowled some useful overs with his spinners.

Joe Gurka - Although Joe only played 5 matches, he made a big contribution with both bat and ball. As mentioned above, his 93 against Aka Sports was the team's highest individual score for the season. His medium pacers were also highly valuable finishing with 11 wickets, including a hat trick.

Hari Raja - The class of Hari's spin bowling was obvious in the two matches he played for the team, finishing with 6 wickets.

Thanks also to Chris Gunton, James Senior, and Jake Bailey who fielded for the team at various times.
