The season can be described as tumultuous one but in the end a season where a group of guys, albeit almost a different set each week came together to enjoy a Saturday afternoon of chasing leather, or in some cases dealing out some punishment. The season commenced with a thriller against Parramatta, on a junior sized over. All up over 320 runs were scored in a 1 day match, with the result going down to the final over and the hungrier North Parramatta, taking out the honours. Our second match was one to forget as we were bundled out cheaply but our second innings was far more promising. A black & white umpire's lack of knowledge of the new rules denied Charuka a century by a run, also quite possibly staving off an outright defeat. Our season took a nasty turn the next round, not due to a cricket match but one of our own not doing their duty as umpire and in the final wash-up can be attributed to why B13 did not make the semi final. To make things worse, we had two players retire for the season and the loss of a captain. We did pick ourselves up to upset the ladder leaders in Kings Langley in the first innings but succumbed in an outright loss. To have taken 7 points off the tearaway leaders really got our season going and we proceeded to win the next three games quite convincingly, the highlight being a century by Charuka. We were lucky to have juniors on a weekly basis to inject youthful enthusiasm into our play. Heading into the summer break, we weren't far from the top 4 but needed early wins after Christmas to keep those above us wary. We struggled to field a team on our first one dayer back and with 7 players were no match for Hills Barbarian. With a dubious umpire assisting, the game was over in little over an hour. On a hot day, we were fortunate indeed to have batted first and our suffering was brief. Our second one dayer was also a day to forget as our opponents Norwest racked up a healthy 352 which was almost impossible to chase down. After a successful umpiring stint this time around, we faced up to Kings Langley once more, and again we were able to triumph. One of our players Atif did not profit too much from this game though as his Porsche received a decent dent from a 6 hit by one of the Kings Langley batsmen. We did receive an injection of talent with thanks to Kanishka. Nirav and his mates added a new dimension to our team with Nirav providing variation with his left arm in swinging bolters claiming many victims. He could also be counted on to provide a valuable contribution at the top of the order when it came to our turn to bat. Chani proved to be one of our most reliable and consistent players throughout the season and produced a fine 86 before running out of partners. Suddenly we found ourselves on the cusp of semi-final place and in a key game, had to beat Rouse Hill. We started out well by having them dismissed for 85 runs but our batting was very disappointing, and we fell agonisingly short by 7 runs, with that went our semi hopes. Our last game was disappointing as we succumbed to an outright loss. A season can really summed up as "What could have been". We were competitive in many of the contests but our inability to have a strong foundation of core players ultimately cost us. On the positive side, we were able to give a few juniors a taste of senior cricket and we all got on quite well.
