2002/2003 Report - Under 10 Red

At the beginning of the season at trials, I was asked by the selectors, 'who do you want in your team'. My reply was 'my own son and another eleven boys, not the best players, but boys at different levels but prepared to listen and learn about our great game of cricket'. The final week of trials I was handed a list of boy's names, who I must admit due to their various cultural backgrounds, I had problems remembering. With in a week or two I had mastered all the boys' names, however mums and dads, I'm sorry I didn't always get yours quite right.

The boys in the 10 Reds were absolutely fantastic, in my 15 years of coaching their thirst for playing and learning more about cricket was the best I have ever encountered. All the boys improved not only because of their efforts at training and in the games, but because of the extra work they did with mum or dad at home, thank you very much parents. Thanks to the parents who also helped at training and during the games, in particular to Shan for his efforts in scoring for us.

Results on the field were outstanding, where a team effort enabled us to go throughout the season losing only the one game, and that was by one run with only eight players. Finally I wish all boys the very best in their future cricket endeavours, unfortunately the team will be split in half next year as most of the boys are eligible to play Under 10 again next year.

THE TEAM

Nevin Arora: Improved his technique with the bat and ball especially after the Christmas break, must learn to concentrate a bit harder to improve his game even further.

Michael Bennetts: A fine all round cricketer eager to learn, is developing his batting to another level by introducing a sound defense to his all ready fine attacking game. His bowling could always be relied on to get us that early wicket. Proved the coach wrong by showing it is possible to catch a high ball with your hands in your pocket!

Samuel Bennetts: Has a great thirst for learning about cricket, has developed into a fine all round cricketer, and has the ability to become a real good batsman with a second to none fielding standard.

Raveen De Silva: A fine all round cricketer who always gave 100% and this showed by his efforts on the park and the steady improvements in all facets of his game. Great effort Raveen.

Sanjay Fernando: Struggled a little with the ball, but through a very sound defensive technique has developed into a very fine opening batsman with a nice cover drive. Well done Sanjay.

Jonathon Fulcher: At the start of the year it would be fair to say that Jonathon struggled not only because of his newness to the game, but also by a little bit of self confidence. But by year's end his improvement, in particular in his batting, has made him into a fine cricketer well done mate.

Michael Gounder: "Little Michael" could always be relied upon with both bat and ball. With the ball showed great accuracy with his medium pacers and was learning to bowl spin. Batting always aggressively scored some fine scores, just has to learn that defense is just as important, once he finds the right balance between the two he will develop into a fine batsman. Great year Michael.

Ajay Joshi: A fine opening bowler showing good pace, a more than handy slips fieldsman. Ajay also has the ability to become a top order batsman. A good talker on the field always supporting his fellow players, well played Ajay.

Amol Marwah: A great little leg spin bowler, getting plenty of spin with good accuracy for his age. Lacked confidence with his batting, but with more practice has the shots to develop into a good batsman.

Matthew Parker: Developed into a fine opening batsman putting great value on his wicket, very strong through the offside. Took on the role as wicket keeper and did a fine job. Supported his players in the field like a good keeper well done Matt.

Anoop Vaidya: Improved both his batting and bowling with every game, should develop into a fine all rounder. Always listening to advice which can only improve his game, well done Anoop.

Matthew Newson: Joined the team during the season and improved with every game. His bowling being his main asset showing good pace. Towards the end of the year Matt put more value on his wicket when batting and was developing a sound defensive game.

All in all a great season, hope to see everyone back next year with Baulko.
