2004/2005 Report - Under 11/1

This season saw us make the Grand Final, which was an achievement everyone should be very proud of. The end result did not go our way, although when it appeared likely that we were headed for a defeat, we did not throw in the towel at any stage.

That kind of "never give up" attitude means a great deal to me as a coach. Since game one we have improved in leaps and bounds. Our team's improvement was a testimony to the work everyone (parents included) put in at training during the season.

From one game to the next you could see each cricketer start to fulfil their potential one by one. While all still have some work to do before they individually are "world beaters", they have the talent and skills required as a team to achieve outstanding results. Each and every player in this team is a credit to themselves, their family, their teammates and their club.

Special thanks must go to Mansoor Rizvi for managing the team, Phil Waddups for scoring, Craig Shiel for umpiring when called upon, Darren Thomas for his ongoing help and last but by no means least to the rest of the parents for their continued support and advice all season.

My role as coach was made a great deal easier during the season thanks to the parents who were very cooperative when called upon to help with drinks, canteen duties and fund raising for the club. It has been a great pleasure to coach this fine young cricket team this season. I hope to see you all back again for next season.

The Team

Sam BENNETTS (c) - Our Captain is an immensely talented batsman who showed exceptional style and technique. A reliable first slip, Sam has also proved to be a handy bowler. Highest Score 46.

Jack DWYER (vc) - Our vice captain is an enthusiastic cricketer who enjoys batting and can score quick runs with skill. Reliable second slip, whom with a little more work on his bowling, will develop into a fine all-rounder. Highest Score 44

Sanji FERNANDO - He is our brick wall when it comes to the batting line up. May not score quick runs, but is a reliable batsman who holds up his end for a very long time. Sanji took a couple of memorable catches this season and is turning into quite a talented bowler. Highest Score 16 & Best Bowling 3 for 8.

Tevin LIYANAGE - Did a fine job keeping wickets all season. His batting seemed to get better with each innings which is why he finished the season as one of the openers. I can see that Tevin is turning into a fine cricketer who can bat, bowl and keep wickets with confidence. Highest Score 21.

Amol MARWAH - One of our spin twins. An immensely talented spin bowler, who can take quick wickets when the team requires. Is very astute when bowling and sums up the situation well. Amol is constantly thinking where to land that perfect ball. Best Bowling 3 for 5.

Abhinav PARASHAR - Abhinav is a genuine raw talent who really enjoys his cricket. A natural at bowling who has developed one of the finest in-swinging yorkers you are likely to see. Always willing to learn more at training and puts it into practise when Saturday morning comes around. Best Bowling 4 for 9.

Asad RIZVI - Our PDCA representative has all the attributes that will allow him to turn into a fine cricketing all-rounder. Bowls with sheer pace and fluency. Can also bowl a deceptive slower ball. His batting requires just a little more patience but on occasion can produce an outstanding innings which we all know he has in him. Highest Score 33 n.o. & Best Bowling 3 for 7.

Kiveshin PILLAY - A cricketer with a lot of potential. Did a sound job relieving Tevin as wicket keeper on a few occasions. Kiveshin has talent and with continued coaching will turn out to be a special player who can perform all the skills the game requires. Highest Score 10.

Sam SHIEL - A fine bowler who can produce deadly accurate and fast bowling. A memorable quote from Sam during a match that I remember well was, "I need to bowl". I think that quote in particular shows just how enthusiastic he is to get the ball in his hand. His batting is always improving and he shows a keen interest in the game. Best Bowling 5 for 2.

Karanbir SINGH - Karanbir is a natural at all aspects of the game. Whether batting, bowling or fielding he can always produce a favourable outcome for his team. He is always willing to learn how to become the best cricketer he can be for himself and his team. Best Bowling 6 for 15.

Adarsh SUBRAMANIAM - One of our spin twins. Adarsh is an extremely talented spin bowler who can always take quick wickets when needed. He is a very keen cricketer who always listens and is a pleasure to coach. Best Bowling 4 for 7.

Ashleigh THOMAS - Ash has one of the sharpest cricketing minds in the whole competition. He is very keen to encourage his bowlers and fieldsmen and has all the talents the game requires. Whether it is as a batsman, bowler or a close-in fielder. Highest Score 35 & Best Bowling 3 for 17.

Michael WADDUPS - Mick is diligent at training where he has improved his bowling technique, which has added to his talents. A patient batsman, who can bat anywhere in the order. Mick has the ability to be a fine all-round cricketer. He has a lot of potential, even more than I think he realises. Best Bowling 1 for 1.
