2004/2005 Report - Under 13/1

Another great season for the team! The boys progressed for the third year in a row without losing a game to go on and win the grand final. We welcomed Jarryd Sainty to the team this season. We were put under pressure several times and on each occasion the boys would support each other and rise to the challenge. Our closest game was in the Semi Final against Norwest where we bowled them out for 96 and then struggled to pass their score 9 wickets down. In the Final against Kings Langley the boys found their form again bowling out Kings Langley for 97 and then passing their score only 3 wickets down. Again it was a pleasure to be involved with a team of talented young cricketers who played with such skill and professionalism.

Some of the highlights of the season started in our first game with Nick making 65 runs and Samira taking 4/14. Round 2 was a one-day game with Guilford Leagues winning the toss and electing to bat. With Gabriel taking 5/9 and Samira 4/5 we had Guilford back in the dressing room within 55 minutes with only 34 runs on the board. Sam and Sean took 6 overs to pass their score with the official game over before the drinks break. In round 3 we put on 299 runs with Sean 93 and Gabriel 82 no the top batsmen. In round 4 Teshan took 4/5 and then backed up in round 5 with 3/8. In round 6 Daniel and Nick both scored fifties with Daniel continuing his form scoring 77 runs in round 7. Samira also took 6/20 in round 7. Round 9 saw Josh take 4/9 and Sean scored his first century going on to make 133 runs. Gabriel opened with Sean scoring 65 in a 160 run first wicket partnership. Brendan scored his first fifty in round 11. Nick 29 and Trent 21 were the top scorers in the Semi Final with Ben taking 3 wickets. Trent ripped through Kings Langley taking 6/9 in the Final with Nick top scoring on 45 no when we passed their score.

The Team

Ben Abbott has fielded exceptionally well this season; he has good reflexes and a safe pair of hands, which resulted in his selection for the fielding award. Ben bowled well taking 9 wickets and was equal second taking 8 catches. Ben has a good eye and is a strong hitter of the ball, scoring quick runs when required at an average of 13.8.

Sean Abbott has really developed this season especially with his batting. Sean topped the aggregates with a massive 494 runs at an average of 49.4. He scored his first century and had the highest score of 133 runs. Sean left the keeping to Nick this season and focused on his bowling taking 19 wickets at 8.74. Sean was selected to play representative cricket for the PDCA in the Gee Shield. His performance in representative cricket has seen him selected in the NSW Emerging Blues.

Matthew Barbeau is an excellent bowler and a very good fielder. Matthew started at King's School this year and was unable to play the second half of the season. Matthew bowled 33 overs with 8 maidens taking 7 wickets at an average of 10.57 runs per wicket. Matthew was a regular fielder in slips with sharp reflexes stopping almost everything that came his way.

Sam is a good fielder, often fielding at point, cutting off anything that comes in his direction.

Jarryd Sainty joined our team this season and fitted in very well with the team. Jarryd is a good all round cricketer and a team player. Jarryd also batted after the openers, which in a team full of talent meant he had less opportunities at the crease. Jarryd is a good fielder and a good athlete taking 3 catches.

Brendan Temple-Smith has had a great season, especially with his batting. Brendan scored 223 runs and finished 3rd with an average of 37.17. He batted in the top 3 positions on seven occasions showing patience and skill in building an innings going on to score his first fifty with 55no. Brendan is a very good fielder with sharp reflexes taking, 6 catches. His contribution and approach to the game were recognised when he received the encouragement award.
