The season had its' highs and lows but overall the team had a very pleasing season. All of the guys contributed and as the season progressed they developed into a cohesive unit with many achieving personal milestones during the course of the competition. Despite struggling during the middle of the season, due to the loss of key players, the guys remained up-beat and were rewarded for their efforts during the second half of the draw. The new-year and a consistent line-up saw their performances steadily improve which culminated in a nail biting finish to the season. The guys put on a stunning performance in the last match and were extremely unfortunate to narrowly miss out on a semi-final berth.
The Season in Brief The beginning of the new-year saw the injury problems put behind us and with a consistent starting line-up the teams' performance improved with every match. The guys saved their best performances for the run home to the semi-finals, producing emphatic wins against the same teams that we had lost to in close matches during the first round. However an unlikely tie against the Hills Barbarians, our hoodoo team, early in the last round saw us finish the competition a mere two points short of claiming the fourth semi-final berth. Despite the disappointment of not making the semi-finals all of the team can be justifiably proud of their performance throughout the season.
The Team Satinder Singh: This was Satinder's first season with the club and he quickly fitted into the line-up. As a middle and lower order batsmen his commonsense approach and quick running between wickets has seen him play a pivotal role in several important batting partnerships. Alan Sala: As a left arm pace bowler Alan complements the remainder of our bowling attack and also provides a safe pair of hands and good arm in the outfield. Unfortunately injury meant that he missed several matches during the middle of the season but his return in the new-year saw him again cement a role as one of our opening bowlers. Josh Rich: Josh is a hard hitting batsman who has the ability to punish any bowler who is not on their game. He contributed several swashbuckling innings and played an integral role in the team's resurgence during the second round of the competition. Josh is a bowler with a deceptive turn of pace who has a knack of taking important wickets just when they are least expected. Christian Millgate: This was Christian's first year of club cricket; he is always enthusiastic and has quickly become an integral part of the team. A handy batsman whose speed between the wickets ensures he complements the big hitters in our batting order. While his determination as a bowler makes it difficult for the opposition batsmen to get on top of him for long. Kanav Malhotra: Kanav played several important innings with the bat, although he normally batted further down the order, when the need arose, he was always willing to move up the order. A capable right arm spin bowler with a good set of hands which enables him to make an important contribution in the field. Pranav Khanna: This season saw Pranav take on a new role and shoulder a significant part of the responsibility of opening the batting. Pranav also acquitted himself well as the captain of the team during the early part of the season. James Hunt: James rejoined the club after a break, his calm and up-beat nature saw him fit in quickly and capably fill the role of captain during the latter half of the season. The injury woes during the first half of the season also saw him step-up and ably fill the role of wicket keeper for the latter half of the season. Preet Gosal: Preet's cricket improved significantly during the season and he has developed into a very handy bowler. During the later part of the season he began to take on the role of first or second change bowler and on two occasions was unfortunate not to take a hat trick. Bradley Curtis: Bradley joined the team mid way through the season and soon became a valuable member of the team. A capable batsman and bowler, his ability allowed him to bat early in the order and relieve some of the pressure on our other top order batsmen. Daniel Crook: Daniel was part an integral part of our opening bowling attack where his accurate and consistent bowling made it very difficult for the opposition to make early runs. His bowling often yielded wickets but more importantly put early pressure on the opposition's top order which gave the rest of our bowling attack the ability to attack opposition's middle order batsmen and keep them on the back foot. Gareth Cousin: Gareth's performance with the bat has continued to improve during the season, he has helped to stiffen our middle order and contributed to several game breaking partnerships. His quick reflexes and good hands have allowed him to stamp his name on the position of first slip. Alex Bowen: Alex anchored the top of the batting order for the majority of the season often bearing the brunt of the early bowling attack and giving the rest of our batting order to room to breathe. The loss of our opening bowlers during the first round saw Alex step-in and regularly open the bowling during their absence.
