Our aim for this season was to be as competitive as possible and to be in the final four. Whilst we were competitive we just missed out on making the semis. There were several occasions through the season where things really went well, and we showed some of the glamour teams that we were a force to be reckoned with. There were also several other moments through the season when my ulcers nearly exploded. On one occasion one of our batsmen was severely punishing the oppositions bowling attack. He was smashing the ball all around the place, when he reached 50 he approached the umpire then walked off the field. When questioned he stated that he had to go to his dancing group. Having Charles McLaughlin as our home ground and having official umpires each week certainly taught the team the finer points of playing cricket. I would like to thank the team for the time we have had together especially the ones who have come through all the way from under 10's. To see them grow and develop into young men and to watch their skills develop over the years has been a pleasure. I wish them well in the future and hope to see them back in the senior ranks next year. Also thanks to the Kumar twins who joined us for the last three games of the season. Many thanks also to Terry Webb and David Ruxton from the 16/2's for providing other players, when available, throughout the season. Ali Bokhari: A rather quite person, Ali proved a handy member to the team. A medium pace bowler and lower order batsman he was often called upon to score valuable runs. A valuable member of the team and a good all-rounder. Lawrence Daniel: A medium pace or spin bowler Lawrence also possesses the traits of a good batsman. When he concentrates he can put on a good score and has some very classy shots in his book. On other occasions he has a brain explosion and tries to play a shot that just isn't there. A reliable slips fielder and one of the original members of the team he has developed into a well-accomplished player. Jake Gorman: Our wicket keeper and one of the more vocal members of the team, he has the ability to get under the skin of the opposition. His up close work was extremely quick and he also developed his ability to move with the ball to the faster bowlers. He took a total of 22 catches behind the stumps this season, which shows his ability. He is also not shy with the bat either. Jake also took the opportunity to play in the senior ranks this year and he is well prepared for the future. Troy Higginbotham: Troy really came on this season as a cricketer. His experience in last season's 16/1's helped him to mature as a player. As one of our opening bowlers it was not uncommon for the opposition to make frequent enquiries as to how many overs he had left to bowl. Troy also opened the batting. Frequent opportunities to play seniors cricket this season also helped in his development. Ben James: If a cricket ball was shaped the same as a rugby league ball, Ben could have become the next Don Bradman. Whenever you saw Ben he had his beloved league ball in his hands. A natural sportsman Ben eventually had to make his mind up between Rugby League and Cricket. Unfortunately for us Rugby League won out and he had to leave us mid season to join an elite training academy with the Parramatta Eels. Best of luck Ben and I am sure that we will be seeing Ben in the senior ranks of Rugby League in the future. John Jerome: Mr Cool. John was selected to play Green Shield this season and he certainly displayed the characteristics of a great player. A spin bowler and an exceptional bat he goes about playing in a very controlled manner. Often his own worst critic he always strive to do his best. Should he continue in the same style in the future John could rise to high levels of cricket. Andrew Mansted: (captain) Andrew has been captain of the team for many seasons. Although the youngest member of the team he has always commanded the respect of the team and has learnt the finer points of the game. An accomplished spin bowler and determined batsman Andrew could always be counted on to put in a great captains knock when required. Aviv Pudepeddi: Aviv is a mature young man with a great head for cricket. A fierce opening bowler and batsman he was one of our more steady players. A well respected member of the team he could fire up and lift the pace of the game. It was a pleasure to have him in the team. Alok Vaidya: The quite achiever is the best way to describe Alok. He has the biggest smile and casual nature. A medium pace bowler who put it on the spot he often was able to pick up wickets in the lower order. His batting still needs a bit of work but he still managed to score valuable runs and often got a round of applause from the team for any boundaries he scored. Lockesh & Lacksha Kumar: (16/2's) I could never tell them apart! They both displayed determination and were a very much-appreciated addition to the team. Whilst they only played a few games with us their input was always positive. Many thanks fellas.
