There were several highlights for the B11s this season but in the grand final Parramatta Leagues were simply too good for us. We were defeated 118 to 65. The highlight of the season was our bowling and fielding. We saved our best efforts with the ball in our semi-final victory against Norwest when we successfully defended 80 runs on a fast outfield against one of the strongest batting lineups in the competition. Our batting was held together by Greg Leeson who scored 714 runs at 51 but too often he lacked support. Greg scored one century and five 50s. Other highlights were Adam Fahey's performance of 43 wickets at just over 8 runs per wicket. Dane Sparks also had a productive season with the ball with 32 wickets at less than 15 runs per wicket. The B11s generally had less dropped catches than other teams and there were some outstanding catches and run-outs during the season by Brad Boyle, Greg Leeson, Don Crawford, Chris Mills, Ian Renton, Russell Howell, James Attard, Paul Morris and Adrian Cox. Most of this team has played together for three years now and the bowling and fielding was generally at a higher level than it was the previous season. However, it was disappointing that several batsmen scored less runs than they did last season. In 14 matches, we only had four batsmen in Greg Leeson (714), Ian Renton (243), Don Crawford (193) and Matthew Vecchiato (101) score over 100 runs for the season. Thank you to Matthew Vecchiato for organising an excellent Christmas Party with magnificent food and to Adrian Cox for his enthusiasm in organising the end of season trip to Wollongong. Thanks to those who admirably filled in for us during the season - Troy Higginbotham, Hilton Byrne, Craig Sparks, Damien Norris, Andrew Norris, Brendon Jones and David Nethery. Thanks also to those who supported us during the season, especially those who came to the semi-final and grand final. Neil Boyle, Craig Sparks, Lauren, Anna and Adrian Cox's loyal group of friends - your support was most welcome. THE TEAM Ian Renton - Captain. Apart from one score of 77, Ian was unable to play any long innings this season. Took nine catches but also missed some chances. Was able to bowl economically with accurate off spinners at less than 3 runs an over. Ian Cox - Not his best season with the bat but made a valuable contribution in our semi-final win. Ian is the oldest member of the team but also one of the more enthusiastic players. Chases everything in the field and usually one of the first to arrive for a game. Greg Leeson - The class batsman in B11 with 714 runs at 51. His wicket keeping skills were also first rate with 27 catches and 4 stumpings. Was comfortable standing up to the stumps to the medium-pacers. May have been able to hit a match winning half century in the grand final but was unlucky to be given out for 18 to a ball that may have pitched outside leg stump. Excellent knowledge of the game. Dane Sparks - Bowled accurately all season and was rewarded with 232 wickets at less than 15 runs per wicket. His ability to bowl in long spells meant we were always able to keep the pressure on the opposition. Starred in our semi-final with scores of 25 and 16 and a long accurate spell of bowling. Apart from the semi-final, Dane had a disappointing season with the bat. Don Crawford - Always batted aggressively and was clearly the class batsmen of the side behind Greg Leeson. However, Don often got out when he appeared set for a long innings. Don had just one half century but 193 runs at 21 is still a good season with the bat. Don's athleticism in the field was always an asset. Very quick between the wickets. Paul Morris - Paul's bowling continued to improve throughout the season and he saved his best for the grand final when he picked up three wickets with the new ball. Unfortunately, he was unable to match his batting heroics of 2003/04. Paul's speed in the field was also an asset. Brad Boyle - Brad missed several games during the season and was unable to make much of an impact with bat or ball but did prove his worth in the field. A diving catch at first slip and a direct hit run-out from deep cover were just two highlights. Adam Fahey - Bowled accurately and with pace for the whole season to finish with 43 wickets at just over 8 runs per wicket. Adam took 7-29 in a losing cause against Wenty Waratahs but his best performance was in the semi-final when he bowled 21 consecutive overs for 5-37 to see us win by just three runs. Adam also had his best season with the bat for Baulkham Hills with 94 runs at just over 10. With a batting average above his bowling average this puts Adam in the all rounder class. Matthew Vecchiato - Matthew failed to have the impact that he had in his first two seasons with the club but still managed to take wickets at vital times - none more so than when he was called on to bowl when Norwest needed 5 runs to win with three wickets in hand in the semi-final. Matthew broke the troublesome eighth wicket partnership and also took the winning wicket two overs later. A satisfactory season with the bat with 101 runs at just over 10. Adrian Cox - Looked like a new player with an aggressive innings of 32 in his first game of the season but only managed three more runs for the season. Enthusiastic player who occasionally gets under the opposition's skin. Adrian took several good catches this season. James Attard - Missed several games but showed more promise with the bat. Spent more time at the crease in 2004/05. Another player with a safe pair of hands. Russell Howell - Russell is one player who can definitely say he played better in 2004/05. 70 runs including a lot of boundaries was a good effort. Showed tremendous improvement in the field with some good catches this season. Chris Mills - Missed several games as he was defending our coastline. Ex-baseball player with the strongest arm in B11. Helped B11 win the game against Kings Langley with two excellent run-outs. Is regularly seen throwing a ball at a single stump and hitting it more often than missing. Very fast in the field.
