2004/2005 Report - B6 Grade
The B6 division was a very evenly contested competition in 2004/05 with just 7 points separating 2nd and 5th. We performed solidly throughout the home and away season winning 7, losing 4 and drawing 1, which earned us second spot on the ladder come semi-final time. We had recorded victories against the three other teams in the finals and thus with characteristic confidence, we considered ourselves a good chance for the premiership.
This confidence was however based on the assumption that we would remember how to bat. In our semi-final match up against Hills Barbarians, chasing a gettable 165, we crumbled to be all out for 77. Our worst ever performance with the willow. This regrettable performance soured what was otherwise another fun and enjoyable summer.
If we are going to be premiership contenders it is our batting that needs to improve. In a side that has plenty of batting ability, only three individual scores of over 50 were recorded, with a highest of 78*. As a team we are capable of so much more.
The stand out performers of the year were:
Bowling
- Keenan Galas who took 30 wickets at 14.9. Keenan opened the bowling throughout the year and consistently produced good pace with the new ball. His 30 wickets included two six wicket hauls.
- David Higginbotham took 21 wickets at 11.3. Moved between opening and first change throughout the year. His good figures are more impressive when you consider he didn't bowl at his best for large parts of the summer. A massive season beckons if Dave can get back to his best.
Batting
- Daryl Hinton returned to cricket in 2003/04 after a lengthy lay off and took a season to get back into the swing of things. It was a different story in 2004/05 and Daryl produced some good form scoring 298 runs at 33.1.
- Keenan completed the demanding double of opening the batting and bowling in impressive fashion. His team high 322 runs came at 24.7 getting us off to plenty of good starts.
Fielding
- Fielding award winner Luke Fiore took some memorable catches. Most notably an absolute screamer on the boundary vs Hills Barbarians @ Ted Horwood that will live long in the memory of all who saw it.
- Another good year behind the stumps from Chris Marjoniemi. 15 catches and only 19 byes conceded compared to the 45 we received.
Overall it was a fun year of cricket. Thanks to everyone involved and see you next year.
