2005/2006 Report - Under 11/1B

It was a pleasure to be associated with this team this year. Whilst our results don't shine too brightly, your attitude and commitment to playing the game in the right spirit and for the love of the game wasn't only appreciated by your coach but was also acknowledged by many of the opposition teams. This is something that you should all be very proud of as playing any sport is mainly about having a good time and we achieved that this year.

Statistically we lacked a bit this year and it would suggest that we were a bit out of our depth in the grade that we were in. Bowling and fielding wise we held our own with nearly all teams and weren't far off. Unfortunately our batting lacked a bit. We could hang around all day but struggled to score enough runs. The boys need to learn to back themselves a bit more and play more positively. That doesn't mean go out and slog from the first ball, but they need to learn to put the bad balls away and if they are going to hit it, then hit it. There will always be bad balls and we need to take advantage of them when they come.

Many of the boys made considerable progress this year that isn't always evident in statistics and as such this year was still successful. It can be a big challenge coming from U/10 averages cricket to so called "real" cricket and can take some adjusting. They will all be better off next year.

Special thanks must go to Geoff Stevenson for again managing the team and doing an awesome job as usual. To Kevin Baz and Neil Hughes thanks for sharing the vast majority of the scoring and for your support and help through the year. To the all of the parents, thanks for your support through the year and helping out with canteen duties when needed. Finally, to the boys, as I mentioned before, thank you for the way you played the game. Your attitude, honesty and fun loving spirit was something I was very proud of. You made it a lot easier to do my job and the club and your parents should be very proud of you. I thoroughly enjoyed the season and look forward to next season. Unfortunately not all the boys will be going to U/12's and I wish all the kids all the best for next season.

THE TEAM

Nevin Arora - Nevin is very enthusiastic about his cricket. He has good skills with bat, ball and in the field, but needs to work on his consistency. He sometimes tries to bowl 6 different balls in an over. If he can get the basics right he will become a pretty handy cricketer. When he does get it right he gets wickets.

Amit Balakrishnan - Amit didn't have as good a year as I was expecting him to have. Amit took some great catches this year and has a lot of natural ability. His bowling can be very good, but he has to learn that even the best spinners in the world get hit for boundaries.

Joshua Balzarolo - Josh loves his cricket as much as anyone I've come across. He made steady progress this season. I don't know what he did over the Christmas break but his bowling after Christmas was amongst the most accurate and reliable in the team. He is good in the field and was gaining confidence with the bat the longer the season went.

James Benton - James improved a lot this year, especially with his batting. His bowling can be a bit hot and cold, but quite quick when he gets it right. He has very good hands which he sometimes takes for granted.

Thomas Hughes - Tom was our keeper this year and did a very good job. He nearly always let through less byes than the opposition. His batting also improved from last year and he top scored for the team with 43no. When he stops playing across the line as much he will do even better.

Ravi Marwah - Ravi was our second top wicket taker this year and bowled very well. Ravi has a very good cricket brain and understands the game very well for someone so young. He is staying in the 11's next year and should have a very successful year. He is very easy to coach and takes on board what is said to him.

Anupam Parashar - Anupam is also staying in the 11's next year. He was learning leg spin this year and got better and better with it. I hope he continues with it next year as he was making good progress with it. Like Amit, he also has to realise that even the best spinners in the world get hit for boundaries sometimes

Taseen Rahman - Taseen had a very good year. He was our leading wicket taker and run scorer. When Taseen learns to use his left arm and shoulder when bowling he will be quicker and more accurate then he is now. He was working on it at training and showing good results. Should have another good year next season.

Trent Samuels - This was Trent's first year at the club and he fitted right in. He improved considerably over the year. When he gets it right he is deceptively quick and bowls late outswingers. Struggled with the bat but did improve through the year. Trent's a good kid with a great attitude and I hope he comes back next season.

James Senior - James had a year he probably wouldn't be satisfied with. He has good technique and concentration with the bat but needs to learn to back himself and hit it when it's there to hit. His bowling was a bit hit and miss. As with Nevin he tried for to much variety in the games sometimes. He needs to go back to the basics with his bowling and concentrate on one type for the games and experiment in the nets at training.

Sanju Sonnadarra - Sanju is a quiet kid and loves his cricket. He listens to everything you tell him and then tries to apply it. He made good progress this year especially with his bowling. By the end of the season his bowling was very accurate and economical.

Joshua Stevenson - Josh had a few problems after Christmas with his action but was still one of our leading wicket takers and very economical. He formed a very good new ball combination with Taseen. Has good technique with the bat but needs to learn to keep the score ticking over. Josh has a great attitude and listens to what you say to him.

Amar Subramanian - Amar improved a lot over the season and was a bit of a surprise packet with the ball. Took some important wickets and didn't give away to many sundries. By the end of the season he was different person when batting. He has good technique and was becoming a little bit more aggressive which was good to see. He is also staying in the 11's next season I think and should do very well.
