2005/2006 Report - B4 Grade
The B4 division featured a big divide between the top four and the bottom three teams in 2005/06 with 18 points separating 4th and 5th.
We performed solidly throughout the home and away season winning 8 (including 5 outrights) and losing 4, which earned us the minor premiership. Our heavy defeats of the bottom teams gave us plenty of points despite only winning 2 of 6 against the other top four teams. Nevertheless, we were confident premiership glory would be ours if we could produce our best cricket in the finals.
This confidence was however based on the assumption that we would remember how to bat. In our semi-final match up against Hills Barbarians, we crumbled to be all out for just 87. This was a fractional improvement on our 77 in last year's semi final. We did put some respectability back in the score line by putting in a great effort with the ball. Hills Barbarians had to work very hard for the win, getting the runs with two wickets in hand.
The stand out performers of the year were:
Bowling
Keenan Galas backed up his 30 wickets last season with 36 wickets at 11.6. Keenan opened the bowling throughout the year and consistently produced good pace with the new ball.
Adam Tinley took 31 wickets at 8.8. After languishing at 1st slip for a number of seasons, Adam was given a chance with the ball and immediately became one of the cornerstones of our attack. His 31 wickets included a hat-trick and a bag of seven.
Batting
Keenan completed the demanding double of opening the batting and bowling in impressive fashion. He backed up his 300+ runs in 04/05 with a team high 493 runs at 32.8 which included 2 scores of 80+ and his maiden century.
Solid support performances from Daryl Hinton and Matt Friedrich who scored 273 runs at 21 and 238 runs at 23.8 respectively.
Fielding
Fielding award winner Ben Atkins took seven catches and at least one direct hit runout. Clearly the best all-round fieldsman in the side, Ben fields well in any position.
Dave Higginbotham swapped the ball for the gloves this season and had big shoes to fill after the departure of our long serving keeper Chris. Dave did the job extremely well taking 11 catches and four stumpings.
Overall, it was yet another fun and enjoyable season of cricket. Thanks to everyone involved and see you next year.
