The boys had a wonderful season and a pleasant entry to competitive cricket by winning the tournament. The team led the tournament throughout the season, winning 10 out of 13 games played. Congratulations to all the boys on their fine performance! Parents and the players thoroughly enjoyed all the games and thanks for all the boys for giving us such an enjoyable time. We had a good mix of players with four players having played U11 in the previous year. The skill levels of the enthusiastic youngsters were very high and helping the boys to further refine their skills was a pleasant experience. Blending into a fine team in no time was the key to our success. Players developed a good understanding of strengths of each of the players very soon. Encouraging team members when the runs were scored, catches and wickets were taken was quite common. The ability of our middle order batters to play defensively and to build up competitive scores at times when we lost early wickets as well as the ability to bowl accurately and taking wickets when the opposition was on top were our real strengths. It was not too difficult to beat Kings Langley in the semi-finals. We faced the in-form Norwest - the No.2 team in the Grand Final. This was our toughest game in the season, played under very difficult weather conditions. All the players gave 100% and in a nail biting game we were able to draw the game. The great effort put in by the boys was highlighted in the six consecutive maiden overs they bowled towards the end of the game. Our tournament leaders were awarded the championship based on the points earned in the season, an outstanding result for a great bunch of competitors! The team would like to sincerely thank Mitchell Smith, the team manager who did an outstanding job in scoring, maintaining team stats and reporting, in addition to the manager's role. Special thanks to Gerard Joseph and Darren Thomas for the help in umpiring as well as to Ann Robertson and Donna Thomas for their help in scoring.
