2006/2007 Report - Under 13/1
Our side is made up of enthusiastic cricketers all showing certain skills beyond their years. Boasting a very talented player roster (which made it hard with selections from week to week) our goal was to at least make the semi-finals, which we achieved. It would have been nice to go further in the competition though it wasn't to be.
During the season we were able to defeat every team in the competition bar one. As the competition headed towards the finals we were able to develop a tight unit of cricketers and good mates, who would try the best they could not just for themselves but also for their team. Each player knew his role in the team and each player's willingness and keenness to strive for the common goal was a very satisfying part of my season as coach.
On a couple of occasions we had the need to call on other teams to help fill a void because of our players other commitments, for this we give thanks to Dineth Dayananda, Devin Liyanage and their respective coaches David Burgin and Sujeewa Rajapakse.
Thanks must also go to the parents and supporters of our team whose help is always much appreciated.
Special thanks to Mansoor Rizvi again for another year as the team's manager.
A big thankyou in particular must go to Asad (c) and Daniel (vc) who showed a mature and positive approach to each game, which makes my job that little bit easier.
I look forward to seeing all of you back again for next season.
The Team
Ashleigh THOMAS: Cemented his spot at the top of the order this season with some fine performances with the bat. Ash is also a good bowler and cover fieldsman who is often the first player to field in-close when the occasion arises.
Tevin LIYANAGE : A dynamic top order batsmen who is experienced at this level of cricket. His bowling whether it be medium-pace or spin has improved in leaps and bounds. Tevin is a talented all-round fielder with a good arm.
Sam HUBBARD : A very reliable wicket-keeper/batsman. His batting is of high quality and he has proven himself at this level. Sam is an integral part of the side, both at training and on game day. A player whose positive attitude towards the game is what every team needs.
Asad RIZVI (c): Asad enjoys the challenge of captaincy and does a good job. A great season for Asad with both the bat and the ball. Asad has the talent to bat anywhere in the order. He is a great opening bowler who gives very little opportunity to any batsman at the wicket.
Jack DWYER : Jack has all the attributes of a good cricketer. He can time the ball sweetly, scores runs quickly, fields with great enthusiasm and commitment. His bowling is improving and he is developing a nice out-swinger which generally takes a wicket (or two) or at least stops the flow of runs when he is brought into the attack.
Daniel MASON (vc): A player who has a lot of talent. He can play some very good strokes, especially when he moves his feet correctly. Daniel's bowling is developing well and he also has a strong and accurate throwing arm. He is a very astute cricketer and has an uncanny knack of knowing how to set a field for each and every batsman at the crease.
Sam BENNETTS: Great season scoring plenty of runs in the middle order. His bowling is always improving and his statistics show this. His catching is of high standard. Sam is a keen cricketer who will play good cricket well into the future. A pleasure to coach.
Sanji FERNANDO: Sanji's fielding is of a high standard. This season saw him take some great catches in the gully region. A little more patience and work on his foot movement will see Sanji back in form with the bat next season.
Matthew SAMUELS: A bowler with raw talent who can take big wickets at crucial stages of the match. Matt loves to "go the tonk" when batting in the lower order which is always a joy for the whole team to watch. Listens at training and tries to put what he has learnt into action on game day.
Sam SHIEL: A naturally talented pace bowler whose statistics this season do not reflect his ability. With a little more luck this valuable member of our bowling attack will be back to his best next season.
Karanbir SINGH: A great bowler who has a lot of potential. Karanbir's variation of pace, swing and off-cutters has had many a batsman wondering what will come next. His fielding is of a high quality. While he has above average talent with the bat, Karanbir just needs a little more confidence to show us what he can achieve.
Adarsh SUBRAMANIAM: One of the best spin bowlers in the competition. He has a sharp cricketing mind and knows how to put the ball on the spot. Has had just about every batsman scratching their head wondering how they have just missed the ball. His batting has improved substantially, which is helping him realise the potential he has with the willow.
