2006/2007 Report - Under 13/3

Well if the success of a season is measured in wins and losses we probably had an ordinary year, as we won only a solitary game against Kings Langley. However, this team, nor the coach or the parents think that this was the case, so we reckon we went all-right. We measured the success of the season on the overall improvement of each and every individual not purely on statistics or results.

Each and every member of the under 13-3's contributed to a very enjoyable season for not only themselves but the coach and parents alike. Regardless of the results (and we had a few heartbreaking losses - let me tell you) the boys always remained positive and upbeat throughout the year especially during the games and at training.

The boys are a great bunch of kids, generally well behaved always turned up with smiles on their faces to training and on game days. Unfortunately, due to a mid season knee injury suffered by the coach where we missed out on a few very much needed training sessions there could have been even further improvement from the boys. I think all the boys will benefit from the experience of this season as think most of the boys in this years team have not been given much opportunity in seasons past in other sides.

All the boys get on like a house on fire and were an absolute pleasure to be associated with. They should be proud of their achievements in season 2006/07 as I am sure all their parents certainly are. The fact that the boys kept turning up to training and games ready to play week in week out through the ups & downs speaks volumes for their commitment to the cause and all goes well for a big year next year. All it will take will be a bit more confidence and belief in their own ability and they are more than capable of stepping up to the next level.

A great sign for this team is that all the boys enjoy each others company and had a lot of fun throughout the season and made some new mates as well. We hope to see all the boys back at the BHCC in 2007/08. I would like to make special mention to those parents that did offer their assistance throughout the season and I am grateful for the help provided for Scoring, Umpiring and Canteen Duty: Vince Bateman, Mahbub, Adheesha Dayananda & Big Jim Stafford.

THE TEAM

Kiveshin - Is a punishing Left Hand Batsman when CONCENTRATING as proved by the coach's master stroke to move Kiveshin up to opener where he excelled with a top score of 43. Unfortunately for both Kiveshin and the team he broke his arm after xmas and we did not see him back playing. Good close to the wicket catcher and Right Arm Wayward Leg Spinner. Hope your arm is all good now and well done.

Mahir - (Bowling Award - 17 wickets @ 14.52) - Right Arm Opening Bowler - sometimes on song (took 5/16 against the premiers) sometimes not. Mahir like all the other boys in the team proved that he has ability when he focus' on the job at hand. Mahir wanted to Bat, Bowl & Keep wickets all at the same time such was his boundless enthusiasm for the game. Was also a go to man when all others would not put up their hand to open the batting. Thanks Mahir Great Season!!

Vivek - Right arm off spinner / Right Hand Middle Order Batsman made some good contribution throughout the season with a top score of 36 with the bat. Missed a few early games whilst on holidays. Another with ability that needs to concentrate more and show a bit more patience with his shot selection. Definite Improver for next year.

Abhniav - The quiet achiever of the team. Right Arm Medium / Right Hand Stylish Batsman. Unfortunately for the team 'Abi' moved house or schools or both (I'm still not sure) and was unable to finish the season after xmas. Top score of 25 and showed he certainly has potential as a middle order bat when he could get past the first 2 or 3 overs in the middle. Picked up a few wickets along the way as well with his outswing bowling.

Myles - (Batting Award - Total Runs - 142 @ 11.8) - Showed the benefit of some off season training with his batting and was the mainstay of the side in this department throughout the season with a top score of 37. Myles also picked up 13 wickets @ 11.53 with his Right Arm Off spin to have the best bowling average. Mr. Versatile also shared the keeping duties 50/50 with Tim and took a number of handy catches through the year. Always enthusiastic and encouraging the boys to keep concentrating in the field. Big Improver and congratulations on a fine season.

Tom Bateman - 1st year playing cricket and Tom showed considerable improvement in all areas of the game as the season progressed. By seasons end he had developed a solid defence and an ability to attack the loose balls. Picked up a couple of wickets with his tidy Right Arm cutters - his first an LBW that was surely as plumb as anyone has ever been - fired out by Mr. Trigger Finger himself - Vince Bateman. Well done Tom on a great 1st Year.

Thibagar - Right Arm Medium / Right Hand Bat. A very solid back up to the teams opening bowlers with his consistent line and length. Probably one of the unlucky bowlers that had a few catches dropped off his bowling through the year. Handy middle order bat that also opened a few times as we shared the duties around. Always looked like he was going to get some runs until the old 'rush of blood' cross bat shot came out of the bag. If Thibagar can show some patience next year he will make some good scores as he has plenty of ability.

Blake - (Encouragement Award) - Right Hand Medium / Right Hand Bat. Started the season in great for with the bat until we hit xmas then hit the wall until coming good again towards the end of the year. Had a top score of 19 N.O. and provided great support to the middle to late order batters. Toiled away wicketless for most of the season with his controlled Right Arm Medium Pace until finally taking 3 wickets in the last couple of games. Very much a team player with a great attitude towards his teammates and has definite leadership qualities with his knowledge of the game. Well done Blake on your improvement throughout the year.

Kausthub - Right Arm Bat/Right Arm Medium - Bowled consistently well in the second half of the year picking up most of his 8 wickets in this period with a best of 3/10. Proved that when you mark out your run up correctly things can happen for you. Very solid forward defence as a batsman but needs to play a few more shots once set. Good team player that was willing to put up his hand for the team's benefit in either batting, bowling or fielding. Took a number of great catches through the year. Good Season and will improve next year.

Praween - When 'in the mood' a very handy Right Hand Batsman and Right Arm Bowler. Has great potential but probably needs to show a little more enthusiasm for the game and his teammates when they are going through a rough patch. Both his batting and bowling improved as the season progressed and will continue to do so with more patience and application. Look forward to seeing you again next season.

Dineth - The other half of our Opening Bowling Combination providing the bit of variety every team needs being a Left Hander. Took a stack of wickets (16 @ 15.62) with a best of 5/22 after coming back on for his 2nd spell at 0/22!!! Given more opportunity than in previous season's Dineth really showed what he could do as a bowler. His batting is probably on par with Glenn McGrath in his early days and the coach really did not have too many answers for him. A real team player he has the attributes to succeed in the game. Great work this year Dineth - well done.

Tim - (Fielding Award - 6 Catches) - Great hands for a big bloke Wicket Keeper 50% of the time / Right Hand Clubber / Right Arm Bowler - I would like a dollar for every time I told Tim this year that you don't have to try and hit EVERY ball out of the park!!! With some concentration, patience and more careful shot selection, which was starting to come into his game as the season ended Tim has untapped potential as a hard hitting batsman. Look for this guy to be a big improver in the next few years if he sticks with it. Great season Tim.
