This season saw the team promoted to Div 2 after winning Div 3 in the 14's. We started off well with a good win against Pendle Hill set up with a 5 for and top score of 21 by Luke, then a close loss against Greystanes. Next game against Norwest we were short and the 14's came to our rescue. A good win led by Nelson 49, Luke 4/18 off 18 overs with great pressure from Ryan Bailey with 2/6 off 10 overs. The season took a downhill turn with losses against Kellyville and an outright to Guildford Leagues. Good performances by Luke with the ball weren't backed up by the batters. A close loss to Winston Hills with a fine 62 by Nelson in a 61 run partnership with Robert. Next game against Kings Langley saw a tie. With scores tied, Kings Langley were 8 down, Sam came on and bowled two in a row for the tie. Luke another fine 5 for. A one dayer against Wenty Waratahs saw the team batting stocks bolstered with Alex joining the side. A quick fire 54 by Alex in a partnership of 78 with Nelson also 54, saw us win comfortably. Another 50 by Alex and good bowling from Christian saw us win against Wenty Leagues. A loss against Pendle Hill despite some good bowling again from Luke and Christian. A win and some late season good form saw us win against Greystanes with Patrick, Robert and Matthew contributing with the ball and Luke finding some form with the bat. Big thank you to Greg for Managing and sharing the umpiring, Joe and Neil for scoring, Richard for his kind words of encouragement, and all the parents supporting the team. And now to the players, Nelson Brown, our opening batter and keeper. A huge improvement in his batting this year was achieved through lots of practice and application saw a top score of 62. Good effort behind the stumps in his first year keeping and took the catch of the season diving from short mid off against Kellyville. Neel Chaurdi, middle order bat and mid wicket. Took a great catch into the sun to turn the game against Greystanes. Neel treats his cricket very seriously and it would be a close thing in the cricket statistics contest against Luke. He played with a straight bat all season, and tried hard every week. Terrific partnership with Mason against Greystanes was a batting highlight.. Daniel Gibb, if there was a trophy for team spirit Daniel would win it hands down. Holds a special place in the team and is constantly encouraged by his peers. Whether at fine leg or slip, Daniel always puts in. Dan is the heart and soul of the team. Mason Hemmings, a talented cricketer if ever I saw one. Bowls, bats and fields as if its second nature. Mase is the Warney of the team with the text messages flowing and the Ipod going. He is the go to guy to break the partnership then get another quick wicket. Bags of potential. Alex Jervis, joined the team after Christmas and had an immediate effect. Walked out to bat with the coach suggesting he get his eye in first and dispatched the first over for 12 runs. Chalked up two rapid fire fifties and the team high average of 28. A dab hand in the slips taking some lovely catches. Thomas Mahony, had his first season with us this year and turned in a fine effort, particularly in the covers. Thomas saved dozens of runs through the comp with his athleticism and skill. He backed up keeping with enthusiasm and vigour. A great team player who will improve in the future. Christian Millgate, the bowling find of the season for us. In his second season, stepped up to open the bowling and did a fantastic job. Always keen for a bowl, some great chat in the field, Christian's improvement and contribution this year was outstanding, taking 13 wickets at 9. Often suggesting fielding changes and showing real leadership on the field, Christian definatly won the most improved player award. Sam Nivison Smith, the big all rounder of the team, and another super keen player. Coming on first change and batting at 4, and always putting his hand up to bat and bowl in the nets. Sam had some good starts with the bat without luck. A big score is just around the corner. Took a marvellous two wickets in a row under pressure to secure the tie against Kings Langley. After playing in the morning he'd be off to fill in for the afternoon games. Pat Searson, the Baulkham Hills 15/2's Thommo, probably the fastest bowler in the comp, Pat had his first season of cricket with us this year. And what a season, from a very raw easy going bloke, playing jokes, he developed into a very quick bowler, blending into the team like he belonged. Well done Pat. James Sefontein, our team philosopher, had the best one liners all year. With plenty of talk in the field encouraging the boys, we always knew where James was fielding. When Robert was injured, put his hand up to open and got into double figures against some fierce bowling. James had a real go when helping out with the keeping and gave plenty in the nets. Robert Slater, team Captain, Rob started the season well but an unfortunate knee injury kept him out for a while. Rob did a fine job encouraging the team, setting fields, making tactical bowling changes and generally running the show. The time off didn't hurt his bowling though, taking the fine figures of 17 wickets at 9. Matthew Vassallo, another year of good cricket from Matt. Taking catches and covering lots of ground at square leg, bowling good line and length left arm medium and having a dig with the bat, Matt is another real trier, and a pleasure to have in the team. Luke Woodman, what a season with the ball! 29 wickets at 6.5, and more than a third of his overs were maidens. Rowdy is the feared bowler in the comp, perfect line and length with movement in the air and off the seam. Luke took a number of excellent catches running in from mid on and didn't miss any caught and bowled chances either. Don't get into a statistics argument with Luke unless you're prepared to loose.
