Taking over the captaincy for my first season, it felt a daunting task particularly after Craig Moreman had done a great job for many years. His relaxed and efficient approach to the many activities he has done for this club, serves as a good learning experience for the batch of younger players this team has. Getting through the early stages of the season was going to be the most challenging, but Craig's wise words and experience allowed the transition to go through quite smoothly. While I thank Craig for this, I must not forget the contributions of Peter Touzel and Ian Scollay in this process. Pete acted as my right hand man, always attending the monthly captain's meetings, while keeping up to date with all the notices and other administration that comes. Ian assisted greatly with the on field commitments with his vast experience and skill, allowing fields to be set and providing different perspectives on tactics and the game. This stuff is not forgotten and hopefully their experience can help improve a captain coming through the apprenticeship stage. This season saw the team play some good cricket picking up 10 wins from 12 games to secure the minor premiership. After the 1st round defeat to Kings Langley the team won the next 8 games, before a narrow defeat to Merrylands the eventual premiers. 2 more victories took us to the home semi-final against Kings Langley. In cricket though it can be a cruel game and after some fine bowling to restrict them to a small total of 104, the pressure of some early wickets, the need to get the runs and the occasion meant we were tumbled out for 94. A tough way to end the season but lessons will be learnt and the team will be better for it. A good quote to reflect comes from the great Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson: "There's nothing wrong with defeat as long as you learn from your mistakes" Overall though there are many positives to come from this season, not least the camaraderie in the team, the confidence in building victories and the continual improvement from the younger players will serve fruit for future seasons. So a thoroughly enjoyable and entertaining season comes to an end, as we look forward to September another chapter in the cricketing book will be written. The Team Tim Chesher: the first season skipper probably had his most consistent season with the bat, notching up a PB of 163 not out, plus 3 half centuries and two 40's. Looking forward to next season with improvement on his captaincy and a little luck with his bowling. Nilendra Perera: outstanding season from Nil and player of the year by a mile. Bowled superbly all year achieving a PB of 40 wickets at 9.8 and scoring 88. A quality all-rounder, who is excellent in the field as well, will only get better. Ian Scollay: A quality season from Ian. Another fine all-rounder his variation in his bowling had most opposition batsmen in a spin. A dashing batsman will score more runs next season and continue to be one of the leading players in this team. Peter Touzel: Mr Solid and Reliable. Started slowly but once restored to the top of the order, Pete played some typically resilient innings including a fine 52 against the premiers and 47 against Seven Hills. John Shannahan: John the quiet achiever. His cricket will continue to improve with future seasons. Unlucky with the bat with scores of 19,24,22,21,24,25 and 25 reflecting that his potential will reflect in higher scores soon. A tidy bowler and brilliant fieldsman. Took one of the best catches seen on the cricket field this season. Tim de Ridder: You won't come across a more enthusiastic cricketer than the Door. Always gives it 110%, his bowling has really come on in the last couple of seasons. Picked up some handy wickets this year and has a very strong + accurate throwing arm. Adam Thomas: Gilly had an unlucky season. After his fine innings of 93 against Rouse Hill, some unfortunate dismissals dented his confidence with the bat. A handy spinner and excellent wicket- keeping option, Gilly is another player with skills in all departments. A big season next year is waiting for Gilly. Anthony Battle: A return to cricket after a couple of seasons off and AB certainly hasn't lost it. A naturally talented player who is quality in all departments, his results will be no doubt be better next season. Bowled without any luck yet still got 26 wickets and controlled most batsmen. A 6/44 and 47not out are glimpses of what next season holds. Sulaksha Koralege: Sul showed yet again the promise of his abilities, with a fine 75 against Rouse Hill. A really talented player, who will achieve consistent results with greater patience and resistance, with the bat and ball. Tim Pittman: A great team player, with a good sense of humour, always fun for a laugh. Always enjoying his cricket. Highlight for Tim was a typically swashbuckling 23 not out v Kings Langley, flogging them to all parts of the ground and beyond! Ron Moye: Ron was a new addition to the team this season. A versatile player and a top bloke, who is a very experienced and capable cricketer. Ron played some fine knocks including 26, 25 and 39 not out against Merrylands. Jake Gorman: A talented player, always giving it 110%. Jake's keeping really flourished this season taking 23 catches and 2 stumpings. A handy leg spinner who picked up 3/10 in a spell away from keeping. Had mixed results with his batting, but this will improve through experience and maturity. A thank you to the reserves that played in several games for our team this season. Chris Medd: A solid player who is a good all-rounder. A handy contribution to the team with a standout performance of 5/11 in dismantling Norwest. Matthew Adams: A budding young player who played his first ever competitive games with us. Matt shows promise to be a good pace bowler and is certain to do really well in junior cricket next season. Craig Moreman: As always generous with his time, Craig filled in for several matches when the stocks were down during times in the season. Some highlights of the team's performances:
Fence Clearers
Jonty Rhodes run outs
Bowling Bags And lowlights.......
Courtney Walsh Ducks
Batting Award: Tim Chesher There's not too much else to say really, hope to see everyone back for next season. Tim Chesher Captain
