Doug Blundell
(Awarded Life Membership 1958)

Doug is one of the survivors from the 1930s. He is in fact our first life member, having received the honour in 1958. At the same time Doug received a watch which is still a proud possession of his.

Doug first played with the club in 1933/34 and by his own admission had to work on his game before he could become an important member of the team. To his credit, the hard work paid off and Doug soon became a very good cricketer. He took 81 wickets including two hat tricks in a season with the B 1 team.

Doug was a very hard worker for the club and some of his achievements were:

- secretary from 1942 to 1960:
- delegate to the P.D.C.A. and served on P.D.C.A. executive for 8 years;
- played a major role in recommencement of Saturday morning junior cricket in the early 50s;
- manager and captain of the P.D.C.A. Martin Shield team;
- during the 1950's playing strength of the club was built up and activities increased to include afternoon teas for the players, umpires and supporters, organised social dances and presentation nights and an annual report was produced for the first time.

Some of Doug's playing highlights were:

- captain of 'B I Grade premiership team;
- scored the highest number of runs in A Reserve in the P.D.C.A.;
- member of A Reserve premiership team;
- member of A Grade premiership team.

Doug closely estimates that he took 900 wickets and scored 8,000 runs whilst playing for Baulkham Hills and presenting Parramatta in Martin Shield and Telegraph Shield games covering 28 seasons.

Doug has some of the oldest records on the club and we thank him for supplying same.

[The above was taken from the "Baulkham Hills Cricket Club 75th Anniversary - 1919-1994", published in 1994.]

Doug passed away, aged 88, in May 2007.
